iPod nano vs. classic

Ok. I was waiting for today's release to decide what to buy. Previously I was planning on getting an 80Gig classic refurb. So now I'm thinking I'll go ahead and get either the new 120Gig classic or 16Gig Nano. This will be my first iPod. Best I can tell, the only pro's between the two are...

Nano:
- Smaller
- Accelerometer enabling shake to shuffle and coverflow view sideways. - Not sure I care since Classic has a bigger screen anyway.
- Flash instead of harddrive, but at the expense of greatly reduced capacity. - Faster navigation?

Classic:
- A little bigger, but better battery life and bigger screen.
- Far greater capacity.

So am I missing something, or are they otherwise pretty much the same?

I remember seeing something about a microphone. I'd like to use whichever I got to record meetings at the office. Can both do this? Accessories required or mic built in?

And I like the new in ear headphones, but I'm choking on $80 for them. I'm wondering if they'd be good for on my motorcycle, though.

Thoughts about all of the above?

Man it would be nice to have a complete feature matrix of the two.

Depends if you favour portability or storage space i suppose.
Only the Nano has a record function, although i think you need to buy a microphone, I'm not sure there is one built in.
A hard drive based ipod could fail due to excessive movement, where as a flash drive will stay for years (my first gen nano still works perfectly)

Yeah. Saw that one. I was meaning one that lists off all features. That's just the really high level stuff. Things like answering whether they both can record, and other details is what I was hoping for.

the nano and the classic appeal to two completely different audiences. the nano for the user who is all about the latest pop music and who's music library is under 2000 songs. The classic appeals to the hardcore music fan. It's stupid how apple reduced the capacity from 160Gb to 120Gb. This thread is kind pointless

As you can see from my profile, I'm a newbie to iPods. As such how about you take that into consideration before calling my questions pointless.

The basic menu is the same, only difference is that you can now create genius play lists if you press and hold the centre button. the classic doesn't have that.

the classic also can't record audio, that's a new feature in the classic.

If you need more than 16GB, then by all means get the Classic. I just ordered an orange 16GB nano because I have a classic that I keep in my car and I will sync the nano often and switch around what music is on there since not all of my music will fit.

Once you go nano you'll never want to go back. I didn't, and I have a fairly large music collection. If you want to watch video get a touch. The Classic is niche product now for DJs and such. The typical person is going to be happier with the lighter, smaller nano.

Like the new nano, the new 120 Classic supports recording/pause/play etc via the new in-ear headphones that Apple is releasing, the Genius capability plus a bit better battery life.

The big factor that you haven't told us, is how big is your music collection? Do you want to carry all of your music with you? When you answer those, you should have a pretty good idea of which to get.
