For those of you who have a nanotexture iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard, has anyone experienced permanent screen marks or scratches in the nanotexture etching?

I just purchased a 13” iPad Pro with the nanotexture screen and absolutely love it — it’s great at cutting out glare in a bright harsh office environment — but I’d like to hear some durability experience from those who’ve had it a while before I decide on purchasing the Magic Keyboard (I’m undecided on it for several reasons, scratches being only one of them). I do have a Magic Keyboard for my standard-glass 11” iPad Pro M4, and I‘ve had them for prior iPad models as well, so I’m very familiar with them otherwise and haven’t seen any associated screen issues, fortunately.

Nano-use Suggestions:

1) When traveling with the M4 and keyboard, carry separately unless you put a thin sheet (like comes with the Mac) between the screen and keyboard or use a very thin cloth.

2) I use a very thin silicone keyboard cover on my Magic Keyboard to keep the keyboard clean and less likely to be a problem, should I need to close the keyboard while attached. I make a point to keep the Apple cleaning cloth handy in a sandwich bag so it stays clean, as well as other thin cloths to act as a barrier.

3) When not using the Magic Keyboard, I use a stylus to unlock the ipad, open apps, and type. I haven’t had to clean either of my Nano-Texture screens, outside of using a very soft feather duster.

One of the 13” M4’s I solely use with the Magic Keyboard and the other is used with a Zugu Case (the latter gets the stylus use etc). My 11” M4 is standard glass with a screen protector and Zugu case.

edited to add: I did read a thread this morning on here from someone with a M4 Pro who noticed a slight keyboard imprint on his nano screen and was inquiring how to clean and if it was permanent.

From what I have read from many users, the screen has the hardness akin to the aluminum series Apple Watch (with some getting scratches on the screen) and I treat my Nano iPads in that light.

Thanks for your feedback. I’m not worried about my fingers on the nanotexture screen, but the use of a thin microfiber between the keyboard and screen when closed is reasonable.

I’ve used my 11” M4 with the Magic Keyboard since May and have had no issues with the nano screen. It’s pretty durable. I do periodically clean the keyboard with “Whoosh” spray.

I just discovered mine being scratched right along the line of the rubber seal on the Magic keyboard. Not only the part of the nanotexture screen is scratched.

In my case (I don't have the screen nanotextured) with use if I've found keyboard rubber marks. However, cleaning it intensely with a microfiber cloth and special screen product I managed to remove it. However, when the display gets dirty again, you always see that "fencing" of the keyboard, but once you clean it, it disappears.

Since I realized it, I haven't used the Magic Keyboard much (I'm using it mostly with Apple's official Smart Cover). The truth is that it is something that has left me with long-term doubts if that rubber marks will be definitively on the screen or if simply cleaning it will disappear. The times I use the keyboard and close it I don't appreciate that marks. It could simply be dirt from the keyboard that was embedded in the screen, but I usually clean the products a lot (1/2 times a week with the microfiber cloth and screen cleaning product).

Just to report back on my own question - no screen marks thus far, but I'm being careful when opening and closing. Perhaps not necessary, but better safe than sorry.

I’m a couple months in with no issues. I wasn’t sure I’d like the screen. But so far it’s been great. Whether with a folio case or Magic Keyboard, I always keep the cleaning cloth between the screen and case. Mostly, that is because I’d lose it otherwise. Also, I find myself cleaning it far less since you don’t see the smudges as much. For cleaning, I strictly use the isopropyl alcohol Apple recommends.

I use the cloth trick with my 13" non-nano M4 & Magic Keyboard. Started doing it years ago when I saw keypad marks, etc. on a laptop.

Have used my nano with Magic Keyboard since July and have 0 scratches. Don’t do anything special like others posted above, except cleaning with the nano cloth. Love the nano!

My Ipad m4 11" with Nanotexture was scratched by the Magic Keyboard; it leaves a line across the top the corresponds to the keyboard 'border' which is raised. People at the Apple Store were extremely understanding and tried to remove the damage to the screen, but was unable to. They were very responsive and replaced the unit--with the caveat moving forward I should use a screen protector to avoid damaging again.

The nano texture screen is extremely fragile. I take care of my equipment, but one of the only reasons I paid over $1600 for this, got more memory than I needed (1tb) so I can choose this option.

I believe the Magic Keyboard is a design flaw for the M4 Ipad w/Nano texture. Apple!--if you're listening--we are incredibly loyal apple users: if you're reading this could you please provide a fix the keyboard, OR provide a screen protector that you feel is protective, antireflective, and yet won't damage the delicate screen?

Thank you all!

Put a screen protector over the Nanotexture display? Seems counter-productive. With the MKB & M4 13" (non-Nanotexture), I lay a thin microfiber cloth over the keyboard before closing. This habit dates back to having a similar issue with a laptop.

Yep, this definitely seems to be a better option

I absolutely love mine. I hardly ever touch my Mac unless I’m printing gallery photos. The iPad Pro runs my photography business, I do all my editing on it too. Since I shoot 99% black and white and print on matte artist paper, the Nano matches perfectly for printing.

Few months on, how is it going? Is it workable? Did you start using a cloth? Any scratches?
Just curious :)
