We've all heard about Macbook's suddenly shutting down.
What about a MBP that suddenly goes to sleep?
I was just sitting here, putzing online, when my screen went dark and the darn thing started snoring! :D
Anyway, I think my battery just needs to be calibrated. I don't know what it was reading before it shut itself down, but I never got the "reserve power" warning. When I plugged it in and turned it back on. The battery indicator showed 0%.
Anyone else ever had this problem?

I just have it on the standard "best battery life" setting for when it's unplugged and "best performance" when it's on AC. No custom settings. But I was using it when it went to sleep, so it wasn't inactive.
So here's more weirdness-
When I plugged it back in after it put itself to sleep, the battery indicator said 0%. I left it plugged in until it read 2% and then thought "ah hell, I'll recalibrate it now." When I unplugged it, it put itself right back to sleep. I was going to let it sit for a few hours like your supposed to before plugging it back in.
About an hour later, out of curiosity, I opened the lid again and it woke up! The battery indicator now says 36%.
I'm still going to calibrate it. Luckily, the MBP has great saving features when the battery actually runs out, so unless this becomes a recurrent problem, I'm not too worried. If it happens again, is it likely the battery or something with the MBP? Some sort of power sensor/setting?

Mine did that the other day... I was working away, 36% Battery remaining and it went to sleep. Puzzled, I pressed the power button to wake it up again and it wouldn't wake up, so clearly it thought the battery was dead.

I plugged in my charger, woke up the machine (which claimed to be at 0% battery) then charged it for 10-15 minutes. After that I removed the power adapter and restarted it holding down CMD+Alt+P+R until I heard the Chime twice.

After that, the battery went up to over 45%, so clearly something wasn't quite right with the power management in the MBP, but this solved it easily enough.

Give it a go, let me know if it helps.

AH! Interesting.
I let it sit ALL DAY (about 12 hours) waiting for the battery to drain completely (like you're supposed to to calibrate it), and the sleep light was still on when I got home, even though it wouldn't let me wake it up.
Strangely enough, the battery indicator light on the battery itself would flash even in the morning when I pushed its button. My assumption was that this function of the battery is separate from the MBP, so it was THE BATTERY itself that thought it was dead. Follow?
I plugged it in and turned it on anyway. We'll see what happens over the next few days, but if anything ends up being bad my guess would be faulty battery over faulty MBP.
NATO- how long have you been using it normally since that happened?

Did that, but isn't resetting the PRAM different from reseting the power management stuff?
