Which NAS in the UK is going to my best bet connected to a BT modem/hub and used (once set up) on wifi only?

I’ve been using a Netgear NAS drive since last few years without any issues. I access it over WiFi mostly but the drive itself is connected to the router using an Ethernet cable.

Lots to choose from: Synology, Netgear, Western Digital and others. Your use case is very typical. The main considerations would be how much storage capacity, what kind of RAID configuration, possibly read/write speeds and ease of use. They all allow connectivity via multiple protocols, and much more.
I have two Synology NASs and can vouch for them also. DS214play and DS916+.
