Native Contact iPad App doesn't work

I am unable to create/edit/delete any Contacts in my iPad. I can however view all contacts but when I try to edit, delete or add new contact the native Contact App quits on me. I downloaded as well a couple of 3rd party Contact apps, but same problem the other contact applications just quit on me when I try to edit or add any contacts.
I am not sure what is the problem? Any one can help?

PS: When I got the iPad I set it up (restore) from my iPhone backup

How is this possible? The OS versions are different. Anyway, let's consider this for a moment. The iPad is not an iPhone. Do you see the difference? Maybe you should just install and set up your iPhone from scratch.
