Member Éric 69 just confirmed that the RX580 now can display 4K 60Hz via HDMI port natively in 10.13.6. NO DP -> HDMI 2.0 active adaptor required anymore.

I opened the AMD9500Controller.kext some time ago, and see this

It looks like something about HDMI 2.0 is now included.

For those have RX580 and need HDMI 2.0 connection, can you try if it works natively without any adaptor in the latest 10.13.6?

I got my rx 580 a couple weeks ago and so I don't know if something changed but in my case, I have been able to drive my 4k display @ 60Hz ever since I got it so for me, nothing new.

In the old days, only DP can deliver 4k 60Hz in MacOS, no HDMI port can do that.

If a 4k monitor / TV only has HDMI 2.0 input, then an DP to HDMI 2.0 active adaptor is required.

Also, chroma 4:4:4 (@60Hz/4K) is now natively supported on HDMI port without to enable "HDMI Ultra Deep Color" or enable "Pc mode " in OLED TV which was not previously the case.

Good news on this additional capability. Does anyone know if AMD will release a Sapphire Mac Edition with boot screen?
That's what I would be interested in because I need that boot screen for different OS/Win Systems.

Whats your guess on this one, how are the odds?

If the minimum quantity to make AMD Mac Edition is the same as Nvidia card (250k pieces), then I will say the chance is less than 1%. I really don't know how Sapphire will believe that they can achieve this kind of sales.

Is this something that could be done by them releasing a software/firmware update to the existing cards?

I don't see why not, but I wouldn't think they would have much incentive to pay their engineers to develop one unless Apple "asks" them to. So if you're running Mojave on a 5,1 then be sure to file a bug report and let Apple know that not being able to use FileVault or Bootcamp with your Mac Pro is a big problem considering they recommended the card you're using.

Quite sure Sapphire won't do anything. Hopefully Apple suddenly release a firmware flashing tool for the Sapphire PULSE RX580 8GB and make it a Mac Edition card. Even though I believe the chance is really low, but still possible.

Because at this moment, they still didn't address the issue about how to install 10.14 with RX580 alone.

If a user follow the "normal" path, install 10.13.0 when it officially released, then only perform OS upgrade via Appstore. Their cMP's firmware should be quite old and cannot install 10.14 without firmware upgrade.

However, Apple recommend cMP users use Sapphire PULSE RX580 8GB now for 10.14. It's just won't work without work around.

Until Apple release a full procedure about how to install 10.14 on the cMP with their recommended GPU. The hope still there.

I really hope they (Apple) produce a solution that enables those shortcomings for cMP users but I won’t hold my breath. I’d love to upgrade to the RX580 but I’ll keep chugging along on my HD7970 until a better option is available (if ever).

At least I have boot screens, firmware update abilities, and so far it handles Mojave with ease. I realize I’ll be missing out on a few performance enhancements, but that’s the way it goes I guess.

I wish MVC would turn out an EFI version of this card.

Hoping they enable HDMI audio in an upcoming update:)

Yeah, they broke that in 10.13.5 (the driver loaded in 10.13.4).
[doublepost=1532755962][/doublepost]I think it would be simple for Apple & AMD to develop a program that took the firmware from your card, generate a Mac Pro compatible EFI firmware for it, and flash it back. It could sign it too so it could also work for Vega cards, in addition to Polaris. They would just need to make an agreement with board partners where it didn’t affect the warranty, or perhaps have the board partners independently distribute the app for their cards.

Was it you that was having all sorts of adapter-related issues with that a couple of weeks ago? If so, glad to see it's solved.

Is Apple likely to release a tool that changes the firmware in another manufacturers retail product? That seems iffy to me - imagine the warranty issues if something goes wrong. Who fixes it?

Assuming the fundamental issue with the cMP that causes generic cards to not get bootscreens can't be fixed, I've got to wonder if we're actually more likely to see something like a firmware update that diverts bootscreen output to WIFI, and a dedicated (securely paired) iOS app that gives an ARD / VNC experience to do the few things needed on the bootscreen.

Yes it was me.

As h9826790 wrote,no DP -> HDMI 2.0 active adaptor required anymore.

I have now 4k@60Hz chroma 4:4:4 on my monitor and my 65" Oled tv without to active "Pc mode" or "HDMI Ultra Deep Color" in the settings and without active adapter (1080 Club3D)simply by connecting an HDMI 2.0 cable from my RX580 to the HDMI 2.0 port of my tv and monitor.

I no longer use the DisplayPort with which I have "screen flickering" issues.

On my RX580, I noticed a much better picture quality through the HDMI 2.0 port compared to the DisplayPort;via HDMI the picture is simply awesome on my 65" Oled tv.
I wonder why there is such a large difference in term of picture quality , I have long thought that the DisplayPort was superior to HDMI 2.0 ... ?
Finally no matter, the most important now is that I am very satisfied.

I want to thank all members of this wonderful community particularly h9826790 who wisely advised me and helped to make the right choice in my acquisitions.

Thanks to all and long life to MacRumors !!!

Yeah, it could be bundled on installable media or download from the website like a macOS driver.

That would be great, but it's not going to happen. I think I'll turn up my morphine-drip and daydream about it.

Exactly how the new Nvidia firmware updater for DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 works: https://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/119090-nvidia-firmware-update-supports-g-sync-hdr-monitors/

Quote: This tool doesn't update the graphics card Vbios or Mbios, just the firmware for the UEFI GOP. It will re-apply your current video bios during the firmware check.

But I doubt it will happen.

By the way: Is no firmware update for RX 580 needed for DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 compatibility? If I remember correctly the RX 580 is almost so old like the GTX 1080 Ti, and the Nvidia card needed the DP1.3/1.4 update. Only the GTX 1070 Ti is new enough and needs no firmware update.

Hi everybody,
I have a MP 5.1 running Mojave with an RX 580 and I can't get it to work on 4k@60Hz. It's only working @30hz on HDMI 1.4. I have no video when I change the monitor to HDMI 2.0. I already tested the monitor, a samsung space monitor LS32R75, with my MBP 2015 and the HDMI 2.0 works, but also @ 30Hz. I'm starting to think it's the monitor and I even contacted Samsung's support about it. Can someone give me some idea?
Thanks.

Can you use a Display port instead of HDMI?
