Why are so many HIFI companies struggling to offer native lossless Apple Music through their devices? Who or what is stopping, for example Bluesound, adding Apple Music to their Music Services? Overall there are only a few companies offering it right now, mostly in a lossy format.

Apple is now offering finally a higher bitrate, would that not be a great opportunity for them, selling even more Apple Music subscriptions to people (audiophiles) owning devices (streamer) able to reproduce the higher quality? And getting rid of the need of having a dac and USB dongle attached to your iPhone etc.

So is it Apple blocking it and trying to keep it (again) just inside their product family? So far there will be only the HomePod Mini able to play lossless in the future. Or is it the HIFI companies not wanting to do it? Maybe the answer is very simple but I haven't found it yet. Thanks for an explanation. Take care.

It depends on who you speak to, but if the hifi companies are to be believed, they’re blaming Apple for not having an API, or at least not releasing it to them.

The only company I’m aware of that has any Apple Music integration is Sonos and this may have been an exclusive deal.

In the grand scheme of things, the potential market for additional subscriptions to the hifi industry is pretty limited and wouldn’t even register as a blip on Apples figures so there is no vested interest for them to go to the trouble of sorting it out.

I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but I work closely with a number of hifi manufacturers and there isn’t even a sniff of this being possible any time soon. It is a shame, Apple Music sounds amazing through a decent DAC and I’d love for them to offer it out rather than having to have my iPad connected via a cable.

Many users of Roon for example have been requesting iTunes integration for some time and as I am aware Apple has been approached by Roon and apparently Apple are not interested giving access to their API ( Not sure what is involved ). The bottom line is don't hold your breath.

Roon does have iTunes integration.
