Sorry if this has been addressed in another post. I didn't see one, but possible I missed it.
I imagine this to be a common problem: apps and books can be shared across multiple devices. Personal information (i.e. contacts, calendars, etc.) can also be shared across multiple devices.
The problem is that for families, you may want the former but not the latter (i.e. you want access to the shared aspect of apps, music, books from one iTunes account but you want to keep contacts, calendars, etc. unique among family members).
Is there a way to set things up so that different family members have access to the purchases on the "main" account but can still make use of iCloud for contacts/calendars/backups that are unique to a device/set of devices for a particular user?
In other words, I want my wife to have access to all the apps, books, music I have purchased, but I want her to be able to keep her contacts and calendars synced to her computer and devices independent of my account.
I don't want to have to purchase everything twice so that we both can access these purchases. But at the same time I want her to be able to enjoy the advantages of iCloud. She has her own contacts and calendars and Safari bookmarks. These need to stay separate. But it seems reasonable that we should both be able to access purchased content. With physical media this wouldn't be an issue. Doesn't seem like it should be an issue with digital media. In fact it isn't, as long as she uses my iTunes account. But using iCloud means that we also have to share contacts, calendars, and browser bookmarks. Annoying as it seems you can only have one and not the other.
