Navigator on 3G

Hello guys,
I have decided to buy a navigator app for my iPhone 3G and the options are Navigon or TomTom but I'm concerned they require too much power for running smoothly on the 3G (I know they don't have any issues on 3GS).

Can anyone confirm me how they run on iPhone 3G???

TomTom's UI is great on the iPhone. It runs smoothly and the directions are clear. Navigon runs dreadfully slow on the 3G. When you are on the road you need an app that runs smoothly, especially in areas where you've never been to and you need the app to respond like you want/need it to. The app is not perfect (there's no "perfect" iPhone GPS Nav app), but in my opinion, the fact that it's so practical and easy to navigate makes it worth it for me. I'm sure others' opinion will differ based on their preferences and needs.

Btw, if you're going on long trips, I suggest for you to also get a car charger so you don't drain your battery. That is if you don't already own one, of course.

That's correct. TomTom is much better than Navigon, in my opinion. Navigon may have a couple more features, why have those on your 3G when you can barely get the app to run.

I've had Navigon on both my 3G and 3GS. Neither have had any problems. 3G takes about 8-10 seconds longer to load up but thats it. No lagging difference between the phones. I've had Navigon since early August and love it. No problems whatsoever.

Navigon is a better product overall, especially when you consider the amount of money they are charging. TomTom is better at calculating initial routes and calculating alternatives, but it does not have traffic information yet, so the advantage of this is a bit limited depending on when/where you drive.

Navigon has nicer features - the map is better-looking, the lane assist/reality view is better, the text-to-speech is extremely good, and it only gives you the information you need. For example, some highways might be an interstate plus a few U.S. or state routes, but Navigon will just tell you what sign you need to look for, not the name of all of these routes. TomTom tells you everything, so by the time it's done spitting out all of the text, you might be past the turn. I just use one of the non-Computer voices when I use TomTom.

The problem is that Navigon is unusable on a 3G in my opinion. The text-to-speech cuts out all of the time, and usually will stop completely at some point. The other day, the TTS actually never started for me. It's really bad, and the iPod playback is really choppy and distracting, making it useless.

At this point I wouldn't recommend either. If you put a gun to my head, I'd pick TomTom now for the 3G. Navigon did nothing but frustrate me with its sluggishness.

I have a 3G I wonder why I have pretty fast load time for Navigon and others dont, barely takes a couple seconds. I dont get why most seem to have this problem. Navigon, had it since release day, never failed me ever.

The delay on these apps is what kills you. You need it say couple miles before the exit and by the time you pull out the phone and click the app and it loads you have already missed the exit. I wish they make it faster, but again this time it is the hardware issue. I would not recommend either for the 3G, too slow. Check it with someone who has it before investing the money into it.
