Navigon 1.4 has been released. Google search is great. But one new feature confused me a bit "turn-by-turn route list". What I hoped is that this would list the route details before getting into the navigation but it only appears in the options during navigation! Unless anyone has found out any other way to get to it?

Also, no sign of traffic add-on yet! Any idea when its due in the UK?!

Can you please post some screenshots? Here in north america we are still waiting for 1.4 to be aproove...

Don't have it here in the US yet, but this update confirms my belief that Navigon is THE GPS software for the iPhone. The addition of Google local and the route list pretty much make this perfect, IMO.

Just a side note. Launch times are reduced massivly and gps aquisition is also reduced.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

It's a great update. I'm glad I took the plunge with them first. Hopefully they'll continue to wow us - i've already recommended the app to 5 friends!

They _still_ haven't said why traffic isn't available for the UK? Is it becoming an elephant in the room?

Lack of traffic is why I'm still not using Navigon and paying data charges to hook up my ol' TomTom on another phone (iPhone only on payg so no tethering). It grates.

Wasn't the US version with traffic updates out earlier this week? Thought I'd seen something posted here.

Edit: Sorry, that was CoPilot! Apparently, it has been submitted though.

They still haven't fixed the post code problem either (it doesn't allow you to enter a house number to refine the search) and the routes are still far too biased toward smaller roads when really more major roads would be significantly quicker and whole lot less hassle. Navigon routes are fine if you want a twisty country route or insist on driving though the centre of towns but if you just want to get from A to B quickly and easily they can be quite infuriating. I've bought both the Navigon and TomTom apps but only use the latter now (testing new versions aside).

Go into options then routing options and change it from optimal to fast and change the residential settings. It'll avoid backroads and stick to quick roads.

I've tried all of the route profiles and they do make a difference but none are great. Here's the route from my house to a supermarket we use using 'Optimum' route setting:

This is what TomTom suggests:

I know this journey and all of the roads very well and I've no doubt at all that the TomTom route is the one I'd take. It's the quickest and the easiest. The one Navigon suggests with the 'Fast' route setting is just silly.

It doesn't matter at all of course for a journey I know so well but given its suboptimal routing I'm reluctant to use Navigon for routes I don't know (i.e., for me, it fails in its primary purpose).

P.S. If by 'residential settings' you mean 'Residents Only Streets', this makes no difference to the routes above (residents only streets are pretty rare).

No UK traffic irritates me as well... I bought the western europe version as I have need for France and occasionally other countries, and when the traffic option appeared on my navigon app I swiftly purchased it - I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure it didn't mention that it wasn't functional in the UK on that in app purchase. If it did say it, then I missed it!

Needless to say, I've now payed for traffic but can't use it in france (where it is functional) unless I want to get raped on international data usage and can't use it in the UK because it isn't available.

That sucks... on the plus side I was looking at navigon's facebook page and they do say they are working on UK traffic but won't specifically say what is holding it up.

This update however does sound good, the addition of google for POI's is just monumentally useful.

I'm very happy with Navigon, but I sure hope they provide some documentation on their features. I'm still a little confused about some aspects of Live Traffic.

Good example of the benefit of IQ Routing (although I've seen other reviews on IQ Routing that were the worst of the bunch) ... couple of questions, have you driven the TomTom route multiple times w/ TT navigation on? Also what is the different in total trip time between the different scenarios? My experience with my Garmin Nuvi is that it needs at least 5 min improvement to recommend alternate route, and without IQ Routing feature, I'm curious whether Navigon considered route option #1 faster w/in a few minutes based on it's own untrained algorithms ...

It doesn't matter at all of course for a journey I know so well but given its suboptimal routing I'm reluctant to use Navigon for routes I don't know (i.e., for me, it fails in its primary purpose).

At the end of the day, you would get to your destination with all three route options - granted one better than others but if you were in unknown city, you'd never know the difference ... and over the years, I've learned to use my brain along with my navigation device - for me THAT is always the most optimal route ... also, a view to traffic (and fixed price!) is a critical consideration in my routing decisions - more important than IQ routing ...

Thanks for sharing - good example of trade-offs

Interesting example. Is there much difference it terms of time or miles with the 3 examples?

I'm hoping that NAVIGON is taking advantage of our travel times, now that they can get that info from us if we have the traffic live feature.

I hope they aren't just wasting that valuable data, perhaps they will introduce their own version of IQ Routes soon. Or they could simply add MyRoutes, I really want that feature.

Interesting, I do love navigon, but I also am starting to really like Magellan, their app is extremely user friendly, and is on par with tomtom within there 1st release. You should maybe give them a try, they are coming out with a Europe version.
