I drove to PA from DC over the weekend and then back. Navigon was basically worthless. Google Maps and MapQuest - both FREE as we know - rapidly if not instantly locked on a GPS signal. Even holding my phone out the window, it took Navigon 5-10 minutes to lock with the GPS and often that only lasted for a few miles. I complained to Navigon on their web site this morning but haven't hear. As both Google Maps and MapQuest locked rapidly onto a satellite, I am led to believe the problem is with the Navigon software and how it interfaces with the GPS chip in the iPhone. Does anyone think deleting and then re-downloading Navigon again would help?

I asked a genius at the Apple Store today (she really is very GOOD). She played around with the different apps and concluded that Navigon does not use triangulation at all with cell towers but only GPS and so needs a clear view of the sky to get the satellite signal.
