Navigon has trouble getting GPS signal...

I have Navigon 1.2 but about 90% of the time throws this red bar at the top. My Maps applicaiton has no problem getting a GPS lock.

Is there a bug with this? I have iPhone version 3.1.

Some people have this problem, I would say it's more your phone than the app.

Keep in mind, the maps app will use triangulation and wifi to obtain your location as well as the GPS chip. I do not believe that the NAVIGON app will accept these methods for location and will go to the red bar.

Actually, it doesn't look like your Maps app has a GPS lock. A GPS lock will show a pulsating blue dot with a ring extending from it every couple of seconds. If you just have a blue dot, that means your Maps app used cellular triangulation to get your location (WiFi will show a static ring radius around the blue dot).

I would try doing a restore on your phone. I had some GPS lock issues with Navigon that were cleared up once I restored. If that fails, I would take your phone in to Apple as your GPS chip might be malfunctioning.

Take your phone to an apple store and tell them your GPS isn't working.

Also I recall there is some free app in the app store that will tell you the GPS status I think, look for that.

OP, you can answer the questions so you can get help, or you can try the set of steps on Navigon's site to get a better lock. I have never had a problem with Navigon's GPS.

Or you could answer the questions people asked so you don't have to spend another $100. Your choice.

Don't get all logical on us. Clearly those of us with no problems getting Navigon to lock on must be doing something involving chicken feet and the new moon.

The bottom line is, we all are using the same software code. The only thing different between by NAVIGON app and yours is the iPhone that it is running on.

So, the issue is likely with your phone, not the app.

My Navigon kept dropping its signal. I tested my 3Gs's GPS with MotionX lite and indeed it wasn't great. So Apple replaced the handset. I also had a friend with a 3G who couldn't get a signal and a full restore fixed that.

I've been having the same problem with Navigon 1.2 as well. I didnt have the problem with 1.1 and it seems 1.2 isnt as smooth. I like the other features, but really they are useless if I cant get a signal. I thought I backed up 1.1 incase i ever needed it but I guess I didnt and until an update comes out i'm kinda stuck

All this 'what case do i have', 'where is it in my car' is all crap. The GPS software is just not that stable.

Personally I've corrected it by resetting the network settings and then using maps to obtain a good signal. Then I reloaded Navigon and I haven't had any problems.

I must say it is still a tad unreliable because there are a few occasions where I get the red bar for a few seconds.

Motion GPS Drive was released today and I highlly recommend it. So far it's great. It has great ipod support and a SEARCH FUNCTION, which Navigon and TomTom don't have. For 2.99 you can't beat it and voice to text is only 30 a year. I can live with that if it keeps a good GPS signal.

Location matters hugely. Line of sight to the satellites is better preserved sticking it under the nice big sheet of glass at the front of the car rather than on your lap or in a drink holder. Some people don't grasp the concept, so it's always good to check.

And for what it's worth I've never lost signal with Navigon apart from going through tunnels.

I bought Navigon for my 3GS about a month and a half ago and have been bragging to everyone about how good, accurate, and easy to use it is.

However, yesterday and today driving to work, I got some strange signal issues. Yesterday it located me as being on a road that was parallel to the road I was on, but a good 500-600 yards away. Then today, I had about 9 times where the red bar at the top popped up. No tunnels or anything, all semi-rural driving the whole way. The screen seemed kinda choppy too and not as smooth as even up to a few days ago.

I just am wondering why all of the sudden I am getting these issues. The only app change or setting change at all that I can think of on my iPhone the past few days is updating to the new ipcc file that allows MMS, but I can't think of any reason why that should have an effect. Just concerned and curious why the issues all of the sudden.

I haven't had any problems with Navigon until this Saturday while I was driving through Orange County. It locked in my position to start the guidance, but midway through, it would lose signal. I was not able to rely on it to get to my destination. At one point it even told me to turn right four times (which would lead me to going back to the same spot). Not sure why that happened because I get great GPS guidance in LA...

Well it turned out that my phones GPS chip was bad. Went to Apple and they swapped it out. My maps wasn't loading properly either and thats what tipped me off about the problem. Now Navigon loads faster than ever!

I've searched for something like this, and have had no luck. Any idea what this is called?
