With the temporary price drop on the Navigon apps, I'm strongly considering buying it, but my contract is almost up, and I haven't decided if I want to renew with AT&T or not (T-Mobile is so awful in my area that unlocking, and going with them isn't even worth it, so I'd be with a CDMA carrier).

If I cancel my AT&T plan, and go with another company, but keep my iPhone unactivated (sort of as a glorified iPod Touch with GPS), will the Navigon app still work on my iPhone?

I was wondering the same thing. I just got the iPhone 4, so my jailbroken 3G running iOS 4.0.2 is just sitting there as a glorified iPod with my old deactivated SIM card still in it.

Could Navigon work with a deacitivated sim and no data connection?

As far as I understand it would work, however it would take a bit longer than usual to get a GPS signal when you first start it up. From what I've read the iPhone uses signal triangulation to help it find its location more quickly. Don't take my word for it though...
