NBA, MLB, NHL...Where is my NFL

I got an apple tv this past feb and got rid of cable completely. We stream the ABC, NBC, CW, & TV.com apps to our tv & we buy the season passes we can't get. We buy season packages for all major sports (giving us access to more games than cable) and we have Netflix for our "lazy day" movies instead of flicking through cable for a random one. All in all we are still saving boat loads of money but my only issue is this upcoming NFL season.
What do the "apple tvers" do about this predicament????

I'm not sure there's much that can be done for those who don't have DirecTV. Eventually that contract will expire (frankly I have no idea when - it seems like it's been around forever) - but until then - if you want the NFL Season Pass it's DirecTV or bust.
 
Find someone who has NFL Sunday Ticket but has no desire to watch the games on their iOS devices.

Pay them the extra fee to enable NFL Ticket Max

Be content with watching games on your iPhone/iPad, or figure out a way (either via cables, or a JB solution) to project that to your TV. Unforutnatley I don't know of a way but that's because i don't JB. I know last season the App didn't allow me to use AirPlay though =/

No much it can be done (legally) *in the US really, DTV paid a ton of money for the exclusivity *in the US and until that expires, we won't see it anywhere else. Even on the "grey" area of things is not really that good or reliable.

all the cable providers in Canada sell the Sunday Ticket package, and since many other suscribtions like netflix and im sure others are location based, it puzzling why its not available here, obviously the contract with directTV is not stopping be from ordering NFL Sunday Ticket every year on my cable
 
If the Sunday Ticket ever becomes available, it will most likely be available to existing DirecTV subscribers only.

I should had said in the US.
 
That's a bummer about the DirectTV exclusive. Does anyone know about the length of their contract? It was done pretty recently wasn't it? If it is within 5 years it wouldn't be a bad idea for Apple to overspend for an NFL exclusive to combine with their new Apple TV/iTV they seem to be developing.

Why overspend? They don't need the NFL. And vice versa, hell the NFL, IMO, when the deal is done is going to go the route of MLB. Control all their own online rights to broadcast games. Charge $100/yr like MLB does, and open it to everyone. The NFL knows how to make money, they wont be this closed in the future I believe.
 
Ummm if you have a PS3 you can purchase NFL Sunday Ticket through that, you don't need to be a direct tv customer. I did it last year and the streaming quality was ok.

Yeah...PSN made a deal with DTV, Currently no such deal had been made with Apple. (No saying it couldn't happen, but IMO highly unlikely)

this would make the most sense for the NFL to do once the deal is done

My best friend lives in Texas and I pay him about 1/3 the cost of the Sunday Ticket to use his access to iOS. Then I use the HDMI out to my TV to watch the games...only thing that sucks is I have to get up to change what game I have want to watch since my HDMI cable isn't that long. Of course I just got an Apple TV so I should be able to use the app through mirroring.
 
Isn't Sunday Ticket - and all other league channels for that matter - for out of market games only? If you want to watch your local team then you are still limited to broadcast - or NFL Game Rewind and watch all games the next day.

Yes, they black out the local game as per NFL requirements.

hard to say for me as there is no "local" market, but i know for NHL Centre ice if the game is on a local cable channel that that game is blacked out in the Centre ice channels, also Toronto Raptors games are blacked out in courtpass so its probably the same for NFL

Sorry, thats what I meant. I don't know how the MLB, NBA, NHL channels on the AppleTV work but I would pay boatloads for a NFL option or maybe a RedZone. Sooooo many possibilities.

I thought so. That will continue to make it so that sports fans can't cut the cord completely. Sucks.

With MLB, even if there is no "local" team, the US is still parceled out as such. If I lived in eastern Montana, I am considered in Seattle's market. That would be cool if I was a Twins fan, as they would actually be closer to me.

It gets really confusing on the east coast as some of the states are actually in the "home market" of 2 or even 3 teams. They really need to update this archaic thinking as many of us sports fans would gladly hand over money to the leagues directly for full access to ALL games.

MLB, NBA, NHL are the same price regardless what you use to to view it(ie that same username password you get when you sign up will let you log in via mobile deivces, laptops, video game consoles, apple tvs, other media boxes)
 
There is another option, which is to use a VPN and choose a server outside the US and then purchase the NFL Game Pass package, download the NFL Game Pass app (free) and then use that VPN when using the Game Pass app and mirror the games to your aTV.

I'm in New Zealand so don't need to use the VPN side of it as it checks your IP address when you connect, however when I was living in the Caribbean and visiting the US regularly that is what I did.

The Game Pass quality is very good and also you can use your password to log into the Game Pass site on your computer so if you don't have an aTV you can either watch the games on your computer (using VPN) or hook your computer up to your TV.
 
The black out issue doesn't really matter for the NFL. If you want to watch your local team play, all the games (even Monday and Thursday night ones) are broadcast OTA, in lovely uncompressed HD. You just need an antenna.
