Neat. Those are the cool announcement from earlier today.

I'm not so psyched on the HD TV shows (I usually just buy SD content because I don't think Apple "HD" is all the phenominal), but it's cool to have NBC back!

Clearly NBC's experiment to charge $5 per episode failed miserably, which is why they are crawling back to Apple. Problem is, all last year people found other ways to get NBC content online, so, it could be too little too late.

No Heroes in HD!

No Office Season 4??? Season 5 is starting soon.

No 30 Rock, yet. The placeholder is there. Just blank.

So NBC isn't fully with the program yet on itunes. I know its early. Personally I'd rather buy Bluray TV Show discs rather than individual HD shows. Better quality, extra features. Some HD shows on itunes don't even have Dolby.

Eh. Not that great.

I'm downloading Season 4 (first half) of Battlestar Galactica as we speak in HD. I'll let you know how the quality looks in about 8 hours!!! That's to download one episode. :(

1.5 DSL sucks!

Lets see, NBC left after Apple wouldn't change the pricing(up according to apple, down according to nbc), and now they are back, with content costing.... the same as before! Weird...

How does the quality of these shows compare to the 720p files you can get off other websites for free?

Better than the 512MB DSL my parents have. It took 18 hours to download one movie on my TiVo while there, worst of all, no one else could get online at the same time.

TEG

I just clicked on the preview for an episode (it even said HD in the menu deconstruction at the top). Perhaps it's me, but it doesn't look much better than their standard fair. Also, I'm only on a 2.1 setup, so I do not know if it is 5.1 or still 2.1.

Previews are not in HD!

The HD versions of movies on Apple TV are far far far superior to the standard definition. Of course this is a function of the TV and audio set up you are using. I find the SD versions great for the iPhone and unwatchable on my TV. I think you could watch the SD on a 32" set but probably nothing more. Even at that it will be painful if the 32" is a good tv. However, the HD versions are very nice. I assume we will see similar quality in the TV shows.

Are you guys really able to buy the HD versions? I tried, and it says "Unavailable" (and automatically purchased the SD version without asking me, I sent an email to Apple, they better refund my money)

I have a 52" set and don't really notice much of a difference between iTunes SD and HD content. It's too compressed to REALLY feel "HD".

The Apple website says that some of the NBC TV Shows in HD have 5.1 surround sound; my question is that has anyone here with an AppleTV and a 5.1 Surround Sound system experienced the HD NBC shows that came out today, like Battlestar Galactica, Heroes in 5.1 Surround Sound?

I thought I purchased the HD version of a Grey's Anatomy episode. However, iTunes just downloaded the SD version. The video is 853x480p.

I don't think the HD versions are actually available yet.

I am able to download the HD versions, and somehow get BOTH HD and SD versions. But only the SD version syncs to the AppleTV.

Update?

I thought I was getting the same thing of the SD version being copied over to the AppleTV, but when I right-clicked on the episodes in the TV Shows section of the AppleTV device, the file size registered as the file size of the HD version.

I am downloading the free Heroes now, and it has a 5.1 track. You can also watch the show before it finishes downloading (not sure if this is new, never tried it before).

Quality is awesome. I wasn't in the market for a new external hard drive yet, but all this HD stuff is going to take up some mega space.

I can't seem to get any of the HD freebies to download. It just gives me the SD versions only. :(

I am downloading all 10 of the free episodes available in HD. Are there any I missed?

The first one I downloaded, Monk, looks like DVD quality at best. I dont know if it is just the show, but I am not impressed with the quality compared to shows I have downloaded from other sources.

My HD version disappeared upon download. iTunes has it missing, and it ain't on my harddrive. Very weird.

On the SD front, glad to see they are finally using the Anamorphic Setting. Took them long enough.

Can someone please confirm are these HD versions higher than 480p? Pleae rightclick on the video and do info-> summary and tell us what the resolution is.

I've downloaded the supposed HD versions of the Free BSG and 30 rock episode and they are 853x480... that'd be 480p. Did my HD version get deleted too?
