Need a hard drive recommendation for Mac Mini

So, looking to upgrade my mini's HD, any suggestions for drives that are reliable, quick, and still quiet?

I have no noise from the Western Digital Caviar 250GB 7200 RPM drive. The mini does however sit a good 10' from me as my HTPC.

I would think about a cheap SSD. I am thinking of a 32 GB to go with my Drobo.

You'll find pretty sound support for the WD Scorpio Blue drives as well as the Seagate Momentus. If you want 7200 RPM you'll have to opt for either the Seagates or something else as the WD Scorpio Blacks currently max out at 320 GB.

FWIW, I installed Seagate 320 GB 7200 RPM drives in both my Macbook and Mini and they're working great---very quiet with no issues. I'd suspect the 500 GB would likely perform just as well.

Just installed a 2.5" Seagate 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA II in my Macbook Pro. It's running quiet, cool and fast. Purchased an OEM unit from a local computer retailer for $106+tax

Western Digital just released a 640GB 5400RPM 2.5in Laptop hard drive. If you want a large hard drive, get this one.

I'm in the same boat. I have the stock 120 GB 5400 RPM in my Mac Mini at the moment. I see a lot of people like the WD scorpio blue drives, but is that because they are a cheaper $/GB pricepoint and currently higher capacity than the WD scorpio black drives? I would think that most would want a 7200 RPM vs a 5400 RPM drive.

Scorpio Blue here - quick, quiet, low power consumption.

I've got a 500GB Scorpio Blue in my Mac Mini 2,1 and it works like a champ.

But even at the slower RPM speeds, the blue performs even better than the stock drives that comes with the Mini? Or are you really getting the blue primarily for capacity reasons?
