I want to install El Cap on a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. I did a bunch of research but could not find my answer.

I need to upgrade the graphics card from the 512mhz card so El Cap can run. I plan on using this machine to make some 1080p videos in Premier for clients. It had 16gb Ram and the original Xeon dual core processors. Can it do the job?

Anyways, I am looking at an AMD Radeon 280X on eBay. It is good priced and pulled from a 2010 Mac Pro.

Would it already be flashed for my 2006 MacPro. I really don’t want to flash a card on my own. See it here;

This Mac was basically free for a friend. Please help!

The discription of that 280X looks good to me

So it should show the Apple boot screen and work straight out of the box on the 2006 Mac Pro 1,1?

For non 4K display, this card should work. However, you still better check Netkas forum, make sure this Mac EFI can work properly on the 2006. There may be some issue because of 32bit vs 64bit. You should able to found something at there.

Do you have a link for that?

I have the same question. But don't need it to show the boot screen. Wondering if a Rx 480 would work.

It's really hard to say because nobody knows who flashed it. Could be great, could be slightly off, and could be complete crap.

What makes me nervous about this listing is that it specifically says compatible only with 3,1 to 5,1. I would stick to a listing for either known good cards and/or someone guaranteeing compatibility with a 1,1.

Also, the shipping is horrendous... $45 to ship a GPU?

And the auction is closed anyway. So unless it was you that bought it, this is all moot.
