Our time with my beloved macbook pro 17" early 2011 has come to an end...

This macbook pro had gone through logic board replacement that was covered by the discrete graphic card issue recall.

And few days ago, it gave up on me as the graphic card issue came back and with the working solution by AppleMacFinder, I am still using with the intel graphics only.

Anyway, I am a graphic designer and a freelance video editor, so I am looking for a laptop that basically can accommodate my task.

Kindly recommend an alternative to macbook pro because as far as my reading, there are a lot of issues now with the new macbook models and I am not a big fan of soldered components.

Just search for “gaming laptops”. There are plenty with SSD + HDD combinations and great graphics cards, 4GB+ - I recommend Acer. Solid quality PCs

Check out the Gigabyte Aero 15X. The 2018 model has the 6-core CPU's and an Nvidia GTX 1070 Max Q. It will be great with Adobe Premiere or Davinci Resolve or any editor you choose. Has a pantone display with 144hz refresh at 1080p. Should be great for gaming with the 1070. The 4K screen runs at 60hz but has 100% adobe RGB. You can upgrade the RAM and it has 2 M.2 slots to upgrade the storage.

There is also the Razer Blade 15 (2018) and Dell's XPS 15 9570. The Razer has similar specs to the Aero 15X but with a more premium build. You'll also be paying for it. The Dell has a Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti. So the Razer and Aero 15X will be better for gaming (depending on what you play).

Lenovo should also be coming out with a Thinkpad X1 Extreme. A model based on their popular X1 Carbon. The Extreme model is rumored to have the 6 core CPU's and an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti. Not as powerful as the 1070 in the Aero 15X but decent for games and more than enough for video editing. This should come out in the next month or so.
