I'm actually looking for suggestions. At the time I got the ATV2 I had a Linksys wireless cable gateway 200 (g class) with the economy internet plan from comcast (1 mbps). That was obviously way too slow so I upgraded to the 6 mbps and now thats much better. But I'm running into problems with my connection. I would stream a TV show and every 5-10 minutes the connection gets hung up. The way I fix it is to keep restarting my linksys - then its fine again for another 10 minutes. I'm thinking my problem is the linksys since ATV shows a strong signal and my wired connection runs great. So I'd like to replace my linksys for another wireless cable modem (i'd really rather not have extra boxes/routers and stuff) so I'd like suggestions I was thinking the motorola surfboard SBG6580 but am really just interested in getting what would help me get the most of my internet connection that won't break the bank. If that necessitates a separate router let me know.

Need a reliable setup for streaming to Apple TV

are you streaming these tv shows from the net or from your itunes library?
if its the later, you would get the most by getting a 11.n router rather than a G.
Its mostly from the Net (i.e. netflix and youtube). I was going to get an N router anyway but was wondering if wireless cable gateways are the way to go. the one I have now gives me mucho problems... its very annoying.
I've found those wireless "gateways" that are all-in-one modems and routers are iffy.
Use your provider's standard modem and get yourself an Apple Airport Extreme...I got one a few years ago and it has been money well-spent.
Obviously there are other router choices out there but that's my experience.

I would echo everyone who says an AirPort Extreme is money well spent. Maybe because it uses the 5GHz in my crowded local spectrum, or maybe because it never needs a re-boot.
All the other routers (Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, Trendnet) I've tried have flaked out and needed reboots to work well.
I have mine hooked up to a Moto Surfboard I got off EBay for $25. Get 20Mbit on all my computers and around 10Mbit on my iOS devices.
Looks like any combo 802.11n router + cable modem will be more expensive and probably not work as well.

Airport Extreme
I have had my Airport Extreme for a year and a half now and have never even had a hint of an issue with it. I also plugged two printers into it (with a USB hub) and my Mac will access either one I choose. Well worth the money spent. Nothing but top quality!

yeah i had a linksys router and it was HORRIBLE. had to restart it multiple times a day, devices in the house wouldn't stay connected, and when they were connected they got horrible network speeds. bought an airport extreme and the problem vanished. haven't had to reset it in over 8 months.
