I've upgrade to a 5870 on my old MacPro 2008, it's a great upgrade believe me.

I put a 5770 in my 2008 MacPro 2,1 8 core 3Ghz when my old graphics card died because that's all my local Apple store had in stock that would fit... the fan is really noisy and doesn't seem to have sped anything up, so I can't recommend that one.

Just two days ago I slapped in a GT 640, as the 2600XT was getting loud and I wanted 3 displays. The brand is Asus, and it cost $100 and performs perfectly.

I have a MVC flashed Gigabyte 3 fan GTX 570 in the for sale section of this forum. It would be a great upgrade for a 3,1 Mac Pro.

I ordered a ATI HD 7970 flashed for the Mac, they say its supposed to appear to the Mac as a similar to the D700 in the new Mac Pro.

I bought this card because I think that programs that use openGL should receive a real boost from the new Mac pro.
