Need advice - activating on PC at work, syncing on Mac at home

While I'm waiting for the FedEx man to come to my office, I've installed iTunes on my work PC, and hope to do a quick activation followed by goofing around with my new baby for a couple of hours before I get home in the evening.

My question is -- if I do this, and download some apps over the 3G network before I get home, will there be any problems when syncing with my Mac? Will the apps that I've downloaded be in danger of being wiped out? Do I need to set up this freshly-installed copy of iTunes with my iTunes store name and password before activation?

I imagine that there wouldn't be a problem (since iPads are being activated in Apple stores), but if anyone knows for sure I'd appreciate any advice you could give.

You can do that without a problem. My local Best Buy was doing it for customers before they left. I asked them why and they said that they were hoping to cut down on returns from people who either didn't have computers or didn't have a high-speed internet connection.

I know, I know - who doesn't have high-speed internet, but where I live there are people who are in rural parts of the county who just can't get it.

But the damage could already have occurred. It is possible that connecting to two different machines could open a portal in the time force continuum. If that occurs its possible your IPod could be sent back to the date and place it was manufactured. A complete IPod appearing while they are assembling one with the exact same serial number would cause a full shutdown of the assembly line and both of the duplicates would have to be destroyed. We now a situation similar to the age old Grandfather Paradox.

no problem. activate it at work. when you connect it to your home pc, it will warn you that is is synced with another library, and if you sync it, all the info will be lost. that being said, it will copy any apps on the ipad to the new pc and then sync.

Love Juice is right. Go ahead and experiment at work. Your apps and media will disappear when you resync when you get home. Just don't start customizing your apps, since you'll be doing it all over again anyway.

I'm doing this now just so I have things to play with on the train ride home.
