I need a texting app that won't use my phone number. Another words I can text all I want but it doesn't show up on my usage page with the number I'm texting. I need privacy people.....any ideas?

Get a google voice account? You can text away there and it won't be from your phone number.

The drawback is, if you set your iPhone to be the forward number, any incoming texts will come from a number out in in Montana. Those could show up on your bill. So, anyone who you're hiding your texting activity from will probably wonder why this number with a Montana area code is texting away.

Use AIM or other instant messengers that support texting.

So that is web based?? I can text to a cell number or do they have to have aim too? Sorry, I am VERY new to this stuff. Don't mean to sound stupid.

TxtPlus

It's not without its flaws (ad-based so it is a little laggy to load sometimes [loads ads first]; sometimes i don't get messages until much later; etc.) but for the most part i have had success with it. For a free app, it is great.

Why don't you just do a search in the App store.

I did go the app store. i'm just not sure what to look for.

I think you might like textnow, you can text all you want an no one will use or see your number, friends can reply directly to your original text sent from the app or they can send a text to your name@textnow.me

As another option you can get a google voice number, forward the google number to the name@textnow.me. Then your friends can use your google number to send text directly to the app.

At no point would your actual phone number appear. The benefit of the google number is you can block people from calling/texting your GV# number. If they were just using name@textnow.me you can't block users.
