Hello,

Looking at investing in to the new 2019 MacBook Pro, however, I just have one question. The main priority for this will be for University work (no programming, coding etc.), but I also play Runescape which is Java based that my 2017 MacBook Pro does not like running at all. I'm wondering if the 2019 MacBook Pro would still overheat and cause issues when running RS?

Thanks.

I don't personally have the new one, but I would assume it still would get hot when playing OSRS. I built a PC just to play OSRS and other games now. The best solution, if you do not want another computer, is to bootcamp Windows 10 on your MacBook Pro and play OSRS through there. The game is better optimized for Windows than Mac.

In RS Graphics options set the following values and you are good to go. Half the time even fan's do not come on
Lighting Detail: Low
Bloom: Off
Anisotropic Filtering: Off
Foreground FPS: 30(+- by your taste.)
Anti-Aliasing Mode: Off
Water Detail: Low
Background FPS: 5(good for AFK)

Biggest impact comes from A Filtering and AA Mode. Followed by Foreground FPS limits.
Works fine with higher settings also, but gets hotter and spins up the fans :)

P.S I'm on 2019 2.4 13in

I don't use JAVA very much, but I don't see how it's going to run any better on a 2019 MBP than it does on a 2017. I could be wrong.

What do you mean? The game is built on Java I thought.

In other words, subreddits and comments claim that OSRS utilizes a single core in Macs for some reason, hence, the temperature rise.
They rewrote the client a couple of years back.
It's nicknamed NXT client and runs mostly on C++ code now.

Oh crap, I didn't know that. Can you link an article so I can look into it? I wonder why they haven't optimized it for Mac though. I'm sure there are a good amount of players that want to play on their MacBooks

P.S The client works like a charm under mac... And it is the default one you get from the regular download from their website...

The only official clients are the ones downloadable from runecape.com.
The others are 3rd party unofficial tries to get things running. Basically reverse engineered and smashed together with non existent teams.
Runelite runs in java and has 0 hardware acceleration on macs. Even on windows/linux machines it needs a little tinkering around to get things to work properly.

Regarding runelite, take a look of this...
