My dad passed away six years ago. He had an iPhone and an iPad. After he died mom just put them in a drawer. Mom died this year and she had an iPad and iPhone of her own. All four of these devices have a lot of pictures which I would like to save. By a lot I mean hundreds maybe thousands not just a few to select and airdrop or whatever. It doesn’t seem they used iCloud because the photos between their phones and iPads are not in sync.

I have all the passwords for these devices so no issues there.

What I would like to do is somehow merge all the photos from these four devices into one location and store them there, wipe the devices, and sell them. Obviously Dad’s won’t bring much being so old but moms are 2019 models.

I am thinking if I plugged these devices into my Mac it would put these photos into my photo library but I am not sure if I really want to do that. I want to keep them separate. Any ideas?

Did you ever try the Image Capture App? You can select the photos you want and import them to the folder you want or even to an external disk. I think image capture comes as part of Mac OS.

If you want to keep them separate, you can make a new account on the Mac, then login to that account, import the pics there, and organize them under that account.

To make a new user account: System Preferences > Users and Groups
You'll need to be an administrator to create new accounts.

You can create a separate photo library on your Mac without creating a whole new account.

Hold down the option key while you open Photos. A screen will pop up to select a library or create a new. Create a new one, import all the photos from the phones and iPads into that new library. Now you have two separate librarys and just need to hold down the option key to select the library you want to open.
