Hi all,

I am planning to Switch from Pc and planning to buy a MBP. I wanted to know if it is okay to buy the base model priced at 1799 with student discount and the apple care. Should I upgrade the RAM fro 512 to 1G. I will be using it for school and the usual stuff. Would I require a higher memeory. I can't afford to pay more than $2000.
Also the reburbrished are only $100 less than the student discount so should I buy a refurbrished or a new one.

Need advice.

Refurbished seems to be a pretty good experience from what I've seen about here - after all it's been through quality control twice, so should be less likely to have something wrong with it.

As for RAM, OSX is RAM hungry, so you will need to get more, but buy your own and stick it in - it's cheaper than getting the Apple memory.

Edit: You could hang on a while and see what the macbooks look like - they could be plenty for you needs and far cheaper. They're due out soon (don't know exactly when, though).
