I just got my very first mac today along with a couple of accessories, one of them being the airport express. I installed it and the internet and printer seem to be working fine, but the speakers i can't get to do anything. I plugged them into the powerbook just to make sure they're working...and no problem; but when plugged into the airport express, no luck??? Help please!

I'll assume you mean iTunes will not output sound to the speakers. You need to set up the remote location in Airport Express set-up and select that location in iTunes from the menu on the lower right hand part of screen. See pic.
