Just downloaded AlDente, have program icon on desktop, which I don't like having icons on desktop, prefer to have it in the Dock. so I clicked and dragged it to the Dock, but the original icon stayed on the dock. the copy of the icon is in the Dock but when I click on it to run it, it will not run, "AlDente cannot run, it is in the trash." I "put back" the original icon to the desktop and of course the program now runs. how do I get the program to run and not have the icon on the desktop, but in the Dock? I tried all I could think of with my limited (new user to Mac) knowledge of mac's.

thanxz in advance for any assistance

Dragging it to the dock makes it a shortcut to the application. So all the icons in your dock are merely shortcuts to the actual apps. You can d
just drag that program from your desktop to your Applications folder.

I’m like you, I like a pristine desktop devoid of icons.

Ya, you need to drag it to your application folder. Once you run it, you can right click on the icon in the dock and choose to have it stay in the dock if you wish.

Sometimes an app installer will prompt you to drag to the applications folder before completing, other times you have to manually drag to the folder like you did here, and of course anything downloaded from the App Store will be automatically added.

For uninstalling applications, I highly recommend checking out AppCleaner

AppCleaner is a small application which allows you to thoroughly uninstall unwanted apps.

Installing an application distributes many files throughout your System using space of your Hard Drive unnecessarily.
AppCleaner finds all these small files and safely deletes them.

Simply drop an application onto the AppCleaner window. It will find for the related files and you can delete them by clicking the delete button.

having been a windows user for the past 26 years and now a new Mac user, there are small differences to how programs are opened, and how you can place them. there are also different key strokes for doing simple tasks, and I'm usually pretty good at finding the answers but every once in a while I will need to post the problem, knowing that those with years of Mac use have the easy solutions. for this I am thankful.

we are always happy to help!
i just never used al-dente and other app like that,  usually runs their apps good enough.

i just opened up my dell XPS after weeks of not using that and i felt lost!
is there a way to show a photo card icon on the desktop?
and i have 88GB of photo i just might delete, which is weird because i dont take 88GB of photos!
must be a windows thing adding more GBs.
