I've used a Brother HL-3170CDW in my small business for three years. It died on me this week - it's dirty and creasing paper. I tried to clean it, but I think it's just worn out.

I could buy another and be mostly happy - although it doesn't print pictures very accurately. Do the experts on this forum have any advice on a replacement under $300? My office uses three portable Macs, so a wireless printer would be necessary.

I'd like a color laser printer that takes inexpensive generic toner, without swapping in electronic chips.

I could be wrong, but I'll guess that there are precious few color laser printers that can produce "photo quality" output. And those that can are quite expensive.

For quality color output, you usually need an inkjet printer (I hate 'em).

That said, most color lasers will yield acceptable color output, so long as you're not expecting "photo quality".

Can't help with the generic question.
