My iMac’s hard drive failed and I didn’t have any backups of my data other than what was synced on my Apple TV. The most important thing to me is recovering my family photos. Does anyone know if there is a way of removing my pictures from my Apple TV? Thanks in advance for any help.

Next time, do a forum search.

By the way, iTunes converts your pictures to an Apple TV compatible format to save disk space. Therefore, even if you do manage to get the pictures off the device, they won't be in their original size or resolution.

Contrary to what you just said...
It might be a good idea to read through the wiki so you don't mess something up. I remember I had to browse around on the appleTV harddrive before I found all my pictures, but they are there, and in full resolution.

I'm digging around my ATV to see if I can find photos somewhere on it. If I find the location (and quality) I'll update this thread with first hand information.

Update: I found the files at /mnt/Media/Photos/
There are 2 copies of each photo; the full, original, unmodified, jpegs (I tested with an md5sum against the original) as well as a thumbnail version. Like recovering music/photos from an iPod, the file names have been changed and they are sorted in a bunch of P00, P01, P02 (etc) directories.
