Hi everyone,
To get to the point: i am looking for a recommendation on a drive at least 4TB that can do okay with compressed 4k that I can use on both computers (Late 2013 with usb 3 and Thunderbolt 2 AND USB-c for when I upgrade my desktop and I can use on my new macpro laptop).

I know this type of question has been answered many times. I sense I am stuck between new and old macs. I need to edit 4k and have been getting by with fw800 and usb 3.0 (although choppy playback full res in Premiere). I want to upgrade my drives and don't know which direction to go. And I hope I am not being vague here!

I am not editing raw 4k and don't plan to in the foreseeable future. Just compressed 4k from A7S or C300. The problem is that my mac has usb 3.0 and Thunderbolt 2. I was considering a couple seagate drives in an enclosure:

and

I have a brand new $1400 macpro laptop for field use but not video editing. I am not ready to buy another mac desktop right now.

I looked at SSD drives but they are meant for USB-C. And they are very costly.

Again, apologies if I am not clear. Perhaps someone will get what I am after.
Many thanks,
Chase

Why not just get whatever thunderbolt 3 drive is getting good reviews (like one of the OWC thunder drives or whatever), and the Apple thunderbolt adapter? It’s bidirectional so it’ll let you connect a TB3 device to a TB2 computer. Just leave the adapter plugged into your 2013 Mac Pro and use the native TB3 connection for your macbook pro.
