Need FireWire enclosure for old MacBook hard drive

Hey all,

My dear old MacBook had a run-in with a glass of water two weeks ago that fried out it's logic board. (Cue "Taps" here).

The good news is that the hard drive was fine so now I have a great backup drive. I just need to get an enclosure.

I'm looking for a Firewire pocket drive enclosure that will support this hard drive (2.5" Toshiba). Does anyone have a recommendation? I already bought one enclosure that didn't have the right connections, so I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this themselves.

According to Newegg, they do not exist. Oh sure, you can get an enclosure that will work with the MacBook drive (it is SATA BTW, in case that was something that you didn't know), and you can get an enclosure that will fit notebook drives and has firewire... just not one that works with SATA notebook drives and has firewire.

Get a decent USB based one. You can use them with just one of the 2 USB connectors for short periods of time, but I like to have them both connected if I am doing large transfers (I have an old 80GB Samsung notebook drive in just such an enclosure)

That's interesting, because I've had a Wiebetech firewire 2.5" external enclosure with internal SATA for a year now. It has a Seagate 160GB 5400 in it.

The real problem is that firewire SATA enclosures are strangely expensive. But still, Firewire is the way to go if the budget allows.

Don't worry about having FW800 on it though. None of these notebook drives seem any faster on 800 than on 400.
