(Before you read anything else, this post is about running the game on Windows 7 x64 through Boot Camp.)

So I installed Need for Speed Shift on my MacBook Pro yesterday and it runs really well!

Specs:
2.66GHz C2D
1440x900
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB HDD
9600M GT (256MB)
Windows 7 x64
Latest boot camp software

I made a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qewa07rnsg&fmt=22

I get between 20-40FPS on 1440x900 at medium-high settings.

I really want this game. It looks great and the fact the GTR guys worked on it has me sold on getting it. I'm just going to wait a bit, since I just bought another game. Too many games were released this month that I want! :)

The demo was just released, so I'm going to download it when I get back home.

I love GRID and have the older GTR games, so I'm really looking forward this this one. Looks like the best of everything! :)

I like it, but it's way more arcade than I was expecting for some reason. :)

I'm not with you on the GRID comment, mainly because they're so different, where as I thought they would be quite similar. But that's really a good thing, as it's another flavor of racer to enjoy.

I'm going to hold my rambling tongue until I get some time in with the full version. One comment I will make, is that the limited support for my wheel was kind of a let down, but that's patchable. :)

NFS shift looks cool. but i have to disagree about GRID. great visuals but horrible controls. they are too sensitive. u try to turn and u completely do a 180 which is unacceptable.

I'm going to assume you're playing on a gamepad. When I first Got GRID, I played it that way. They are rather sensitive at the default setting, but that can be adjusted. Besides, it's a thumb-stick, they're at a disadvantage from the get go, because there's only so far one can tilt that tiny stick in any direction.

With my G25 in GRID, the controls are excellent, but I had to set my rotation in the profiler to 180 degrees. This closely matches the guy's turning while sitting in the car view, the guy's arm's movement mimic mine. At that rotation, everything feels right for this arcade/sim racer and if I've done a 180 flip, it's because I made the effort to do so. The wheel really makes the game for me.

Is there damage in NFSS, besides just seeing my car's hood get crunched as an example? I looked in the settings, but even if I slammed int a wall head on at high speed, it just bounced me off, does its eye-candy, then lets me drive on as if nothing had really happened. Even in GRID, if I do that, I'm out of the race.

I like GRID just a tad bit more. Playing GRID online and trying to avoid those first-turn wrecks is always fun and challenging. Shift is really easy to pass people in single-player. Never really cared for NFS online.

I can't even get NFS:Shift to run on my early 2008 Mac Pro (Geforce 8800GT). I have a fresh install of WinXP SP3, Boot Camp drivers installed from the Snow Leopard DVD. NFS:Shift installs, but won't run. The loading screen comes up briefly, then returns to the desktop with no error message. Anyone have a fix?

Hmm...

Maybe try Vista or Windows 7 instead? You're using the original EXE file, and not some no-DVD thing, right? They usually cause a lot of problems with Shift in particular.

I am hoping for a Cider port - all the other NFS games up to Pro Street have been ported. I'd even run it on low if it meant not booting into boot camp.

You could always make a Cider port yourself, since they're pretty easy. I've done it with a few games with success. Although I'd rather have ran them in CrossOver.

I don't ever mind booting into Windows 7. I'm not one of the haters. I have to get away from OS X every now and then.

I don't, sorry. Worth persisting, though, because it runs sweetly
on the same rig (2008 MP/8800GT) under Windows 7. Details here:

I'm running with the 190.62 drivers, by the way.
