need girl bedroom suggestions

I have a 4 year old and 2 year old daughter that share a bedroom. They are both heavy into the whole princess and barbie scene. My wife and I are looking into taking action and redoing their room entirely...walls...beds...dressers...toys...etc. This is going to be done over the course of next year (after christmas).

Any of you with daughters within this age range... do you have pics of their rooms so that I can get ideas?

I've been shopping for bedroom furniture just this last month, and I've found that major furniture stores like IKEA and even more designer-ish showrooms have plenty of kids' room setups. Very nice displays. Perhaps you want to have a more do-it-yourself approach, but that's a great place to get some ideas.

I think that it's the wall paper that gets people's attention and makes the room personal, more than the bed, chair, bookcase, desk, etc. Make sure the 4-year-old has some say about what you choose.

If you want to say what city you are in, people might have more suggestions about specific stores to wander through.

For online shopping, there are sites where you can look at kids' rooms and even change the colors with a click. Would you like URLs of sites like that?

I don't know if this applies but here's my bedroom. Umm...I'm not within age range, far far far away from that age range, but people have given nice feedback about it. It's a small room with a Kings size bed in it.

Also I would suggest looking at the JC Penny catalog, Ikea, and Delias catalogs for bedroom ideas.

I was just in Nashville. I could have helped you in person! Perhaps we could have bought some paint and Barbie diagrams and painted a mural!

The Internet also tells me that the Children's Shop (2203 Bandywood Drive) has children's furniture. Nearby is Especially Baby and A Child's Room (2164 Bandywood Drive), both claiming to sell children's stuff (not just infant nursery stuff).

I think it'll be easier (and more time-enduring) to find princess-themed furniture (like this for example) and simply place Barbie products on the dresser/nightstand, hang some framed Barbie artwork on walls, or look for a Barbie lamp, to add the Barbie theme. Barbie-themed furniture is out there too, but a "princesses" theme will give you more choices and Barbie gets royalties/licensing fees, which might tend to make prices higher.

Are you going to have have a pair of twin beds?

I have a 21 month old daughter, and I hope to dear sweet holy gawd I never ever have a barbie themed bedroom.

I'm more likely to set up a special Barbie barbie featuring roasting dumb plastic mannequins melting onto the driptray.

I quite like the pics above tho. When I saw the thread title, I thought you were talking about having Barbie wallpaper, the whole works.

Someone on one of my Disney message boards painted a mural of It's A Small World on every wall of her daughter's room. It looks amazing.

My cousin's room is done in princesses with the walls painted white, a princess border, and princess stickers placed randomly. It looks really ugly. I'd go for something more like what was posted earlier (polkadots or stripes in pinks & purples) and some nice Ikea furniture. Not only is it more attractive than the boring princess stuff, it's something she can grow with.

The one cool thing as far as princesses go, however, is that you can buy a bedroom door with Cinderella on it from the Home Depot. I think you can also get window blinds with Disney characters on them.

Also, check out the Disney catalogue for princess and Tinker Bell sheets and furniture. They had not too long ago a very pretty Tinker Bell sheet and comforter set. Just watch out that the stuff you buy isn't too cheesy looking.

Personally, I wouldn't go with a theme so much as a color motif. Foxglove9's room is cool, and timeless. By that I mean it will last them a long time. There's a commerical on TV about Lowe's where a dad helps a daughter repaint her room. Places like that will have lots of ideas for you.

They are fairly close in age, and still very young, but I'd still suggest that you give each of them their own little area of the room. They probably don't need it now but will soon enough.

Try Bilk. The nice thing about these is that once they outgrow them you can simply take them off the walls. They even have ones specifically for kids.

For my daughter's room (she's now almost 6, but this was done at 3) we had someone come in and paint a mural on the walls. Her name means "island" so it's water on the lower half, then sky on the upper half, with, of course, and island in there. There are fish and birds and all that painted on the wall, and it's really cool. I'll try to post some pictures later.

Anyway, just saying that painting the walls is a fun way to make the room unique. It wasn't super cheap, but much less expensive than going crazy on furniture or Disney-branded wallpaper or something.

Also, keep in mind that if they're sharing a room, even though they both like princesses now, they may not agree on that motif in 3 years.
