They literally give you a blank Linux slice that you can administrate yourself. Full control. They don't cap any sort of media. The won't even sell if they don't have slices available (although that hasn't been an issue in awhile).

If you need basic hosting with limited space but has PHP/MySQL then I'd suggest http://000webhost.com. Best of all, it's free.

No such thing as a free lunch. For free you Java Script tracking code inserted into the bottom of your pages.
For 6.95 a month (two years or more pre-purchase) I use Blue Host.

http://mediatemple.com is probably one of the greatest hosts out there.
1&1 (http://1and1.com) is also pretty great too. I use both.

If you want a host which uses Macs exclusively, then try MacDock
I've experience with 34SP and more recently BigWetFish, both of which are fantastic hosts for the very low price they charge (Basic hosting account with 34sp is £17.95, BigWetFish is £10.99 and it includes a lot of extras in the price.

I use Host Monster (www.hostmonster.com) which is owned by the same company as BlueHost. $4.95/month and offers everything. Plus, it comes with a free domain (though I buy through GoDaddy).
