Tried to convert to apple tv format with handbreak... but after the movie was over... handbreak put in a 3 hour long blackscreen...?

hmmmm not sure what is going on thre. re download apps and try again I got the latest VLC player along with handbreak and already have done 4 movies with no problem good luck

Would someone kindly post a tutorial
on how to rip movies using VLC and
HANDBREAK (or any other software)
and then getting it into iTunes to upload?

Please include any necessary settings
(including bitrate, etc.).

Thanks

Its really not hard at all...Here is all I have done and dont really know that much but a little maybe HAHa...

Ok download both the VLC and handbreak...Not really sure about this but I have the VLC 64 bit on my mac book pro...I was getting some messages when I downloaded from site to use this version. I download handbrake also. Soooo keep VLC open (oh didnt do anything with it just have it running in the background. I think Handbreak tells you that when opening or something but not sure. I just have it open in case. Then open handbreak...Ok honestly all I did with handbreak is change over to Apple TV setting nothing else!! That is the only setting I changed.

Then I poped in a CD and click on source at the very top left hand corner....This will look for where the CD file is...Choose the video folder. Usually have a video and audio folder so choose video....Then and not sure why but choose the icon videio 1_1 vob file...Dont do the 1_0 or the 1_2 Vob file. I always choose the !_1 as the source and works just fine getting the entire movie. Then just hit play start button to start. oh yeah choose location where u want movie saved. It takes about hour or so depending on the length of the move. Once its done just drag and drop into Itunes and then connect Ipad and synch up...Thats all I do and has worked on every DVD I have done...INfact while typing this finished another

I just put in the disc, open HB, and select source as the DVD. HB scans it for a second and VLC breaks protection. Then I chose "universal" setting. I leave everything as it is (bit rate, quality, etc.). And then click start. Takes about 30 minutes.

This creates an m4v file on the desktop. Then I use a program called MetaX. This let's you add actors, director, description, artwork, etc and it auto imports it into iTunes when done.

Never had any problem at all with this.

For tv shows, I do the same only in HB you have to select each episode in the "titles" menu individually and add them to the que. Each episode becomes a seperate m4v file. You can batch edit them with MetaX. Works great.

Hey thanks for this also didnt know that I just have been renaming the movie I would love to have the titles and such going to give this a try now with Tommy Boy.

Glad I could help also

warning tagging into metaX has corrupted my movies and they will not play in itunes now...Arrgghhh have to cut 4 movies all over again

I am having the same problem. Only way around it so far is to put it on the ipod/iphone setting, not apple tv.
Are you using discs? When I rip from a dvd it works, but when I use an AVI file already on my hard drive it shows up as a black screen.

I use a program called subler. i like it better than metax since it writes the info faster and i have had no problems with any movie that ive used with it.
