So i have a Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2012. I recently submitted it for repair under the EU Claim but annoyingly they found the most minuscule drop of liquid inside the case. It hasnt done any particular damage as such its just stained it ever so slightly. But its enough that they refused to uphold the claim. Now what i need to do is replace the battery, retina screen and some worn away keys which is easy enough to do myself, i just figured i would try and get it done for free first. However, i want to upgrade the hard drive inside. At the moment its a 256GB SSD and i would like to increase to 512gb if not 1TB. But i am unsure exactly which SSD to use for my machine. I was hoping that someone could offer some advice, maybe the make and model of a SSD drive that would be compatible?

For the 2012 Retina MBP, there's also the OWC drives:
https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/ssd/owc/macbook-pro-retina-display/2012-2013

You can also get an adapter and put a standard mSATA SSD. Going this route is cheaper but you do need to make sure to get a good quality adapter (look at the customer reviews) and get the adapter and SSD from someplace that that has a good return policy.

Adapter:

1TB mSATA drive:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-850-EVO-Internal-MZ-M5E1T0BW/dp/B00TGIVRYU

These are all US sites, but you can get the idea of what to look for on a site you would buy from.

I'm looking to do this with the adaptor and the Samsung 850 EVO. Are there any issues with doing this? Will it be compatible with any macOS?

And when installed will it detect the new drive so I can format it and clone a backup to it?
