Ok I have an imac 24" aluminum 2.8 GHZ with the standard 320 GB and i want to buy another 1TB.
what are my options? external?, internal with some kind of a usb/firewire dock? maybe another option?

my budget is 100-150$ what do you recommend?

Whatever suits your needs. I'd advise against Western Digital as I'm now 0/3 on their desktop drives (my 1 TB "green" drive is having problems 9 months after purchase, and now I have to deal with their sh!++y customer disservice once again).

For external, I'd go with a FW800 since that'll maximize your speed. Macally makes nice enclosures with internal SATA and FW800, but for some reason they do not daisy chain very well. I have a Rosewill with FW800, FW400, USB2 and eSATA in an aluminum enclosure (which are usually fanless) that cost $70 - quite a bit more than the Macalleys (which are also aluminum). If you need to move your drive between computers, be sure you have an enclosure that will work with all of them - minimally USB2.

With that budget you don't have too many choices of 1TB Drives. Granted, prices are definitely coming down, I am waiting for Thanksgiving sales and Xmas sales this year to buy me a 1TB Harddrive.

Well I have a ps3 and a8 gb disk onkey my intention is to take a 4gb vob file from my "new" 1tb hard drive to my disk on key plug it in to the he ps3 and watch..
so my drive shouldn't move.. i want it to be plugged in to the firewire/usb port and stay there..

can i get a nice 1tb external hard drive with firewire 800 within my budget? do i need to step down to FW 400 or maybe usb2?
i just need a reliable hard drive..

any suggestions?

How is the LaCie 301315U?
and the AcomData PHD10000USE-72

I really love the LaCie design how is he compared to the one above?
anyone is using/used/knows anyone who uses one of the two?

I went with this SimpleTech Pro Drive a few months ago mainly for Time Machine and cloning my internal drive.

It's a little more than you are looking for, but I liked the quad interface (USB 2, FW400, FW800, eSATA) making it about as future-proof as you can get. If you are using it mainly for Time Machine, you could get away with a USB 2 drive. If you are using it for video or phoot editing, I'd go with Firewire.

Although I am using it now for Time Machine, and a 500GB external LaCie drive for photo/video, in a year or so I'll probably move my photos/videos to a 1TB drive, and get a 2TB drive for Time Machine. With that in mind, I paid a little extra for FW800.

I have the enclosure, but inside of it is a Seagate 1.5 TB drive. I have two Samsung 750 gb internal drives, though. I'm a big fan of both companies.

Remember, the MacAlly enclosures sometimes have trouble with fw daisy chaining.

I currently don't have the need for daisy chaining... so that would work for me. Thanks.
