Need help about bootcamp and windows 7 install

This is to be done on my MacPro

Okay I have my intel series 320 ssd in the optical bay. I have 3 or 4 questions. I have 200gb used on the intel and 100gb empty.


1st question

is 50gb big enough for windows 7. leaving me 250gb for the osx 10.6.7?

2nd question

my mac pro has 32gb ram I read that windows 7 home 64 bit premium uses up to 16gb so do I need to buy windows 7 pro 64 bit

( I won't do much heavy lifting I just don't want the home version saying fu I can't read 32gb ram) ?


3rd question

My last long use with windows was w 98 how hard will installing this be with bootcamp?


last question is for bootcamp mac pro users with osx and windows 7 installed do you like it? does it work more or less ? Or will I constantly be trying to trouble shoot it. TIA phil

1 - 50GB should be plenty enough if you're only going to have applications installed on the Windows partition and user data on a different drive.

2 - Yes, Home Premium 64-bit has a memory limit of 16GB. You would need any Edition above that to increase the limit.

3 - Dunno, never bootcamped I run Win7 in VMWare.. heheh

Installing Windows 7 shouldn't be too hard.

Windows 7 on boot camp is just as stable as Windows 7 on a PC. Take that as you will.

q1. That depends. What are you planning to install on there? 50 GBs should be plenty though

q2. I can't answer that since I don't know anything about home win 7 premium.

q3. It's really simple and basically like installing windows 98. There are plenty of tutorials on the web. Make sure you have the OSX install disc handy to update the drivers and install bootcamp update software.

Last question. It's windows, just like on a normal pc. It has it's good points (I still prefer office on windows to office on mac) and it has many bad points. Personally I like the extra stability of win7 (64 pro) and I hate the new ui. I hate the new file explorer. I hate that all of the settings are now hidden in different places under layers of pointless dialogs. I hate the fact that ms cannot figure out what interface it wants to use and has at least 4 different styles in their own applications.
