The port on my iPad Pro somehow got messed up (bought a refurb)... It charges the iPad fine but if I try to plug in my Apple Pencil to connect through bluetooth it does not recognize that anything is plugged in---thus, it not being able to connect means I can't use the pencil with the iPad, which is the reason I bought the iPad in the first place.

Does anyone know of any way I can connect my Apple Pencil without the port?
-or-
Does anyone have any other ideas of getting this iPad to recognize the pencil before I have to shell out $700+ for Apple to replace the port?

THANKS!!

If you can charge through the port you should be able to connect to Bluetooth. Try resetting your iPad and see if that works.

Appreciate the idea but no luck. Reset and then erased the iPad and reset with no luck either.

Are you sure it's not the Apple Pencil that is defective?

I took the Apple Pencil to a store and it connected right away to an iPad they had.

Hmm... that's a puzzle. Bluetooth is turned on, right? I'm sure you checked, but sometime it's the basics we miss :)

Yes, it’s on. I’m able to connect other Bluetooth devices to it.

What version iPad do you have? Have you ever been able to connect the pencil to this particular iPad? I know that the pencil will not connect to certain iPad versions. Good luck and keep us up to date on your outcome.

It’s a 12.9” iPad Pro. The pencil worked with it for a few months and then just stopped. I contacted Apple support and they were the ones that had me visit a store to make sure the pencil still worked and once that checked out they said there was most likely something wrong with the port.

Did you bring the iPad to the store and test it with one of the store's pencils? It may be worth backing up the iPad and setting it up as new to see if that changes anything.

Have you tried connecting the pencil via USB cable using the adapter that comes with the pencil?

But you’ll need another USB cable and a female to female USB adapter to do this.
