I have a jailbroken 2.2 iphone 3G. I was in the process of prepping the phone to give to someone else, so i went to settings>general>reset>erase all content and settings.

It took an hour for it to finally reach the end of the status bar, but now all it does is show the apple logo with the spindle continously spinning?! I can't turn it off, i can perform a soft reset(holding home and sleep key) and nothing happens it goes back to the apple logo with the spindle.

Itunes is not recoginizing the phone nor can i charge it. Please help me! what are my options, is it bricked???

Put the iPhone in DFU mode, and iTunes will recognize it and restore it.

exactly! because of the jailbreak you changed the software and through the reset process you "bricked" your iPhone...
just hold home and power button for 10 seconds, then release home and keep holding power until it clearly reboots. connect it to iTunes.
apparently itunes wont recognize it in OSX 10.5.6... try on windows :p
