So I got an email last night from Apple, saying a new/unknown device had downloaded the AirBnB app, and they wanted to let me know so i could change my password if needed (oh but if I had recently changed it - i might get this same message). Well I obviously didn't click on any links - the email address was Apple.

So this morning when i'm actually awake I check and sure enough the AirBnB app was purchased on my account. Crap. On my phone there is also a message saying my password was compromised and I should change it. On the website....

Except I can't.

Since it is a non-email AppleID (old ancient), they are forcing me to make it an email address. It won't let me change it to the email AppleID because it is already in use. I can't do @mac.com @me or @icloud. I had set up a NEW iCloud address for it - but it won't let me change it to that either.

Why if you are new... way back in the dark ages, before iCloud, before me, there was @Mac, and AppleIDs weren't email addresses. Before Family Sharing having it split with the NAMEONLY and NAMEONLY@mac.com was the only want to share purchases withOUT sharing email and messages.

There is NO WAY to combine the accounts.

The iPhone won't let me change it on the phone it will only go to the website... which doesn't work.

Craptacular.

Any help or suggestions? (Apple support had no clue last time I called - the guy was like, WOW, i've never seen one of these AppleIDs before, but have heard of them)

I know there are more of us out there - it came up in a post "recently".

If you are willing to set up a single-use email account with a free email provider (for example, gmail, yahoo, or outlook), you could try changing your Apple ID to a newly established email address. Then, if that Apple ID change is successful, you could see if it is possible to make a subsequent change to one of your preferred email addresses.

Finally, if the process above is successful, you could simply stop using the new email address altogether or keep it in reserve for other uses.

We must be close in age. I have the same problem. My orig applied was not an email and still exists. I created a new apple id /email using the first half of my no email applied. They will not merge them. I have music bought on both. Whenever I upgrade the OS and do a clean install I have to login to the old non email account and reset the password so I can still access the music I bought with it. It is a royal pain. to this day I can still login with it and reset it. Did you try that.

I suggest you call Apple Support and discuss this with a live person.

Sounds like they need to nuke your old Apple ID and get you set up with a new one.
If that's possible.
(I almost never use my Apple account or ID)
