need help cleaning up my iPhone

First, how do I delete all the music? I tried the first few hits via google, but none of them have worked. I fear I might actually have screwed things up. For example, under
settings -> general -> storage & icloud usage -> storage-manage storage,
I no longer have a "Music" app.

I think I accidentally deleted it, yet the music is all on the phone. How do I restore that? And more importantly, how do I actually delete all of the music from the phone and then do a fresh sync to iTunes from the mac?

Second, under
settings -> general -> storage & icloud usage -> icloud-manage storage -> this iphone,

I have a bunch of apps appearing there which I have long deleted. The best I can do, it appears, is to set these apps to "turn off and delete". Why can I not completely remove these?

PS: I went in and manually deleted all of the albums individually from the iPhone. Now I can't seem to figure out how to resync. I don't even get the option to eject the iPhone!

Additionally, why am I seeing 3 songs show up in iTunes?

Have you rebooted your device or done a hard reset? That might trigger the music app to return. Not sure what you tried via google, but all you have to do is go to the manage storage, music app and swipe to delete all music.

Second, iCloud. The reason why you are seeing deleted apps is because thats an iCloud backup that builds on top of itself every time it auto backups. Delete the back entirely and create a fresh backup, you will notice those apps are gone and the size of the backup itself will be much smaller.

I have not tried rebooting or a hard reset. I'll give that a shot. As of now, when I plug into my laptop, I don't even see the normal option for configuring the device (i.e. selecting what gets sync'ed, etc.)

Most of the stuff I found on google showed outdated screenshots. The whole process was frustrating. Yes I did swipe and delete the music app, but the music stayed there until I manually deleted everything.

I will take a look at the iCloud backup and try and follow what you have suggested.

Attached is what the storage looks like. I tried resetting the phone, but Music is still missing. Could it be that it is missing because there is no music on the phone?

I tried deleting the iCloud backup, but it hung at the place where it asks for the password. I killed the settings app, and tried again, this time it said "unable to delete". I tried yet again and the delete finally worked. I'm now running a manual backup so hopefully the deleted apps will be gone.

Any insights into why I'm seeing the 3 songs in the attachment in the first post?

Is there any music on the phone? Go to settings -> general -> about. If there are 0 songs listed, then thats probably why you don't see music.

As for iTunes, that circle next to the song title means that its trying to download. If you just select the song and hit the delete key you should be prompted about deleting the song from your library.

If it doesn't allow you to select and delete, have you forced quit iTunes?

I currently have 0 songs, but like I mentioned Music was gone even before I went in and manually deleted the songs.

For iTunes, it does allow me to delete those songs, but they keep reappearing.

Try adding one song to see if Music returns? And for iTunes you can hide iCloud purchases, that may get rid of those songs. Launch iTunes go to top menu bar -> View -> Hide iCloud Music Purchases.

The only way for me to add a song seems to be to manually drag the song under the phone. I can't find that settings page which will allow me to specify which playlists to sync.

What are iCloud music purchases?

1) Yes, this will hide songs that have been purchased but then deleted.

2) When you plug in the device, click the little device icon in the menu bar and select your device. You will be brought to the main page. Here if you scroll down you will see a box that is either selected or not saying "manually manage music". Make sure thats unchecked if you want things to auto-sync. After that, on the left side there will be a menu bar with Music, Videos, TV Shows, Apps, Pictures. Select music. This should bring up the page you are talking about. Sync all, selected playlists and so on.

If I select Music under Devices, that's where these dotted circled songs show up and there is no option under the View menu to hide iCloud music purchases.

Awesome. Glad we got the music on your iPhone sorted out. As for the dotted circles, I'm not entirely sure what else to try. You've tried to delete and it won't allow you to hide. I'm not sure why they are dotted. They should have already downloaded. Sorry I couldn't take you all the way to the finish line. Hopefully someone else will chime in now.

The dotted ones are less of an issue.

I just wanted to get the phone sorted out because I'm about to get an SE and didn't want duplicates on the phone (which is what got me to deleting all the songs and starting the sync process over). It looks like I have been able to accomplish that because of your help!
