hey everyone,

long time reader, first time poster (yeah, i know that sounds corny). Anyways, I'm a Mac newbie and I just got a 12" PowerBook the other day. I've been trying to connect my Mac with my PC through an Ethernet cable in order to transfer files and stuff but whenever I try to connect, the username and password will not be accepted by my Windows machine. I think I'm making the wrong assumption of using the same username and password as that of my Windows login but I'm not completely sure. If anyone who has done this could give an example, I would really truly appreciate it!

Also, I tried to run a split command in the Terminal but it keeps saying "illegal byte count". What does that mean? Sorry for all the newbie questions, I'm just looking forward to getting the most use out of my PowerBook cos I've been so excited to switch for a long time. Anyways, if anyone can help, I would be very grateful. Thanks!

weird....is the windows machine in the same workgroup?

Also if you turn windows file sharing on you could use the windows machine to access the mac.

You don't need a password unless the Share is password protected, then you will. You don't really need a login name either. Just do SMB://ipaddress, leave everything as it is, choose your share and connect.
