Need help fixing icon, getting rid of glossy bubble

So I wanted to change the stock icon for BeejiveIM to the "Normal" theme icon for Palringo. I managed to rename the icon so the image is correct, but the icon itself looks like the stock icon, with a glossy bubble. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of that so it looks flat like the rest of the icons?

Your post isn't very helpful, and if you'd bothered to look at the icon.png image you'd see its not a glossy bubble, so there must be some sort of setting in the "normal" theme from cydia that makes the icons flat. You can see in the screen shot that the rest of the icons are flat, and I copied the icon to rename the Beejive one so it should be like the rest of them.

You can see in this screen shot, the Palringo icon is flat... I'm just trying to copy that same icon to use for Beejive so it blends in with the rest of the icons on the homescreen.

Sorry you don't find it helpful, but that's the reality of the situation. Simply renaming an icon isn't going to change the appearance of it. There is no such setting within Winterboard or any theme that is going to alter how the icons look, either.

Don't get snarky with people who are offering you advice when you don't know what you're talking about. Those people are probably going to start ignoring you.
 
I'm not using winterboard to change the icon, I'm using SSH to rename the icon so its the same as the Palringo one. I'm not being snarky, there just isn't much point in posting in a thread where someone is looking for help and telling them to hire someone to do it.
 
You misunderstood my post. The part about hiring someone was in parenthesis to cover the possibility that you didn't know how to do the editing yourself. I don't know how to do it as I have no experience with photoshop. I wasn't insulting your intelligence or computer skills.

Also, after seeing your second screenshot I can't think of any reason the icon would change after moving it from one theme to the next.
 
That's what I can't figure out... I copied the name URL and pasted into the name of the BeejiveIM icon.png, so I thought it would be the same. The image worked but I don't know how to get rid of the glossy bubble.
 
Replace the glossy PNG with the one you want by SSH.

If it's a WinterBoard theme go into the Themes directory, then go into the theme and just swap out the icons, remembering to keep the name the same.
 
Have you tried using SSH and going into the theme folder and copying the file directly into your new theme folder?

Just as a side note, I've heard that editing icons of app store apps usually results in a broken app. I've never actually experienced this first hand but I've read it in more than one place.
 
Oh that's good to know, I haven't had any issues with the app thus far. I didn't see a glossy.png file in the theme folder, just a plist file... but I wasn't sure what that was. I don't have my own theme file because I just want to change that one icon.

Tokiopop: How do I just swap out the icons when I'm trying to change an app store stock icon? I'm not very familiar with SSHing, I was surprised with myself for even getting the image copied over.

Well, I've only done it in WinterBaord themes, but all you have to do is delete the icon for the app, replace it with your own icon, and renaming it what it was called before. But as I've said, I've only tried doing that with a WinterBaord theme.
 
Yeah "Normal" is a winterboard theme. I'm pretty sure thats what I did... but I didn't delete the original BeejiveIM icon, I renamed it. Does that make a difference?
 
So I tried deleting the original beejive icon and dragging over the normal theme palringo icon, but it ends up just being a white glossy box. I tried renaming the Icon.png to Palringo.png and it didn't work either.

I also tried deleting several png's from the Beejive folder named NoIcon, Invisible and rounded_box just to see if any of them were associated with the glossy bubble but it made no difference, so I put them back in.

I'm stumped.
 
Okay. One more shot from me.

Forget about renaming or deleting anything. Using SSH, go into the theme that has the icon you want and copy it. Then go into the theme you're using and paste. It should tell you the file already exists and ask you if you want to replace it. If you do and it doesn't work I apologize cuz I'm completely completely stumped with you.
 
ssh into your iPhone and find the BeejiveIM.app directory.

Find the Info.plist file in there, drag it to your Desktop and convert it to xml so you can read/edit it.
In Terminal:
Code: 
plutil -c xml1 /path/to/Info.plist

Open Info.plist (with Property List Editor, BBEdit, TextEdit...) and look for the following key, and change it to false
Code: 
<key>UIPrerenderedIcon</key>
<[B]true[/B]/>

Save the file and convert it back to binary:
Code: 
plutil -c binary1 /path/to/Info.plist

Replace the original Info.plist file.
 
I don't use themes, but the steps I described should let you get rid of the rendered 'glossy bubble'. Just rename your Palring.png icon to the name that BeejiveIM is looking for as an icon (icon.png?) and follow the steps.

It's not the .png file that holds the rendering, it's just the entry in the Info.plist that tells the OS to render it... or not.
 
K I converted it to html through a website, when I open it, this is what I see and the last thing on it is UIPrerenderedIcon NO

So I'm assuming I don't change the NO to false?

Ok, I changed it to YES just to see and it made the entire app disappear off my iPhone :S So I put the original back in and its back to the way it was (damn glossy bubble)
 
Alright. Go into your "Normal" theme into your Themes.XXXX folder. Go into Icon Set or Icons or whatever.....and find the one that has Palringo.png. Copy that. See the BeejiveIM.png icon? Delete that icon. Paste the copied icon in the same folder. It should say you already have an icon like that and give you the option to rename/replace/keep. Click on Rename or whatever...and rename it to BeejiveIM.png (Or whatever it was, I forget, but the BeejiveIM one that you deleted earlier).


This is all done in the Icon Sets/Icons folder in the Normal theme.

The normal theme doesn't have an icon for Beejive, which was my original issue. Should I just copy the palringo one and rename it Beejive in the normal folder?
