I have a favorite photo of my dachshund as the active wallpaper on my iPad Pro. However, the photo does not appear in Photos.

Would anyone know how I go about finding the file? I know the photo was taken by someone else and emailed to me, but I cannot locate the email.

Every time I turn on my iPad Pro, there it is ... but I have no other way to access the file. The photo is important to me for sentimental reasons, and I'd appreciate any help.

Did you give the picture sent to you a file name or do you know the name of the file? If so, you can try using the Apple app called “Files” to try and find the location of the picture on your iPad.

I received the photo 5 or so years ago, and I don't recall naming it. For that reason, Files isn't much help. But thanks for the suggestion! Incidentally, the same photo is used as my avatar on this website.

Was the photo ever deleted from the iPad Pro?

No, but I'm not sure it was ever saved to Photos. I imagine I opened as part of a text message and somehow used it as wallpaper. It's still there - the wallpaper, I mean - but the original photo is nowhere to be found.

I know long-ago versions of iOS would have saved the file in a Wallpaper folder of sorts, which could be found with the right app and some diligent sleuthing. There doesn't seem to be a modern-day equivalent.

Could you have a screen with just one app on it, down in one lower corner, and take a screen shot then edit out everything on the bottom? It wouldn’t be exactly the same, but you’d have the part of the photo with your pup in it.
