Hi!

I currently have 2008 macbook with 10.6.6. Recently, bought MBA and upgraded to yosemite first thing. Love the new look. I have a simple question, hope it is not stupid :)

In my 2008 MBP, when I install a program, let's say Firefox. I download the .dmg file, install it (move it to applications folder), and then can delete the dmg file, but firefox will still launch. However, in Yosemite, I installed the firefox same way, but then the firefox disc icon stays on the desktop. If I eject it, then next time when I want to use Firefox, I need to go through the same process all over again. If I try to eject disc icon when firefox is running, I get error message that firefox is using it and cant be ejected. I think there is something very simple that needs to be done, and I cant find it. I dont want that disc icon on the desktop once firefox is installed, and dont want to go through the installation process every time I want to use it.

Can someone please guide.

Thanks.

Are you by any chance starting Firefox before copying it to Applications?

I just tested by downloading Firefix, double-clicked the dmg, copied Firefox to the Applications shortcut, ejected the install disk, moved the dmg to the trash and started Firefox. Works as expected.

Just tried it again after deleting the application, downloading again and ejecting firefox before launching it..now everything seems to be working as it should. Thanks for your help.
