Need help on an eBay auction - Nikon 14-24.

The seller lists this nikon 14-24 as a new item. The third pic has what appears to a dent/chip on the forward rim.

The seller insists that this is normal from Nikon.

I've included a pic highlighting this.

Any comments.

Well according to this (http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=172) the flat spot is normal. It's exactly centered on the bottom of the lens and is there as to prevent rolling when the lens is set down.

I would recommend to ask the seller if they will include a copy of the purchase recipt showing it was bought from an authorized dealer. The 5 year warranty on nikon usa lenses is transferrable but you do need to provide a copy of the original recipt in order to claim on it. In my experience this is something that a lot of buyers of "LNIB" items don't realize.
