I had my MacPro running fine all morning, went out to do some errands and upon my return I noticed that my MacPro was not responding so I proceeded to manually powered it off (watched the beach ball for almost 30 mins before pressing the power button). When the system rebooted I noticed that it booted to my Mavericks SSD instead of the El Cap, I also noticed that my El Cap SSD wasn't showing on the desktop anymore like before.

IpProceeded to Disk Utility in Mavericks and the system can see the Apple SSD but it's showing as "unformatted" status, does this mean that I lost all the data on it? Is there anyway to recover from this?

Also, I am getting a "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" message after booting into Mavericks for 15 mins, gives me the option to initialize, Ignore or Eject. I haven't done anything with this message yet, just left it alone for now until I can find out more on what's going on.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid that your SSD died. What brand/model is it? Is there any software bundled with it for recovery?
Do you have backup of your data?

I hope you'll recover it somehow. SSDs is maybe unrecoverable unlike the older ones we all have/had.
I wish you luck!

It's an Apple 512GB SSUBX that I purchased from eBay like 6-8 months ago when they first started showing-up, starting to wonder if it was a factory reject considering it died so soon? Maybe I should have stayed with the 840 Pro instead of upgrading... :(

Your data is likely gone, and the SSD is in question. Typically good repair/recovery tools like DiskWarrior must see a volume; if the drive is unformatted, there is no volume to repair/recover.

:(

I hope you have backups, as odds are against recovery unless you go Drive Savers......$. Cheapest I have ever heard for them was $800. Usually more.

There are a few tools you can try for free....to see what they can see. Last few recoveries I have used Disk Drill with good success,

Still if it's under warranty I would return it and trade it wih other brand or model. I hope you had backups.

I would check the connections, deinstall and install the Syntech PCIE-E adapter again.

I you have a backup, maybe reformatting the SSD will bring it back to life.

If you don't have a backup data recovery is first priority.

I don't think there's any warranty on an Apple-labeled SSD, unless the Mac Pro is still in AppleCare. The Apple sticker on the drive will usually take it out of any manufacturer's warranty, particularly if you have had it longer than 90 days.
SSDs, unfortunately, often die catastrophically - little if any warning, and no recovery, unless you spend the big bucks.

The SSD warranty from the eBay seller was for 30 days only so no luck there, I did un-install the blade from the Sintech and re-seated it in the hopes that it would come back to life but that didn't work either (green power LED is on so the Sintech is fine).

Will tinker with the blade a little bit more today and see if I can get it working, decided against getting another one from eBay so have a 850 Pro en route and should be arriving tomorrow. I do have TM backup so I should be able to recover most of my data up to May of this year, in hindsight I should have unpacked the NAS right after I moved instead of waiting all this time thinking nothing will happen so I have myself to blame.

Appreciated everyone's input on this...
