Need help on upgrades/items for Photo student

Hello all,

I'm starting out at a Photography school and was wondering what upgrades I should invest in for being a Photography student. My current Macs are:

PowerMac Dual 2.5 PPC G5
5 GB memory
2x300 GB Drives
Pioneer DVR-109 DVD-R/DL
23" HD Display

PowerBook G4 1.67
2 GB memory
100 GB drive
SuperDrive

Are there any upgrades, etc. that I should consider? For the last 6 years all I've worked in was video production for a local company doing safety videos and instructional videos.

If you want, you could get a really cool $2000+ camera.

Umm.. you could go all out and get 8 gigs of ram in that thing?

This is sort of a weird thread. There are very few people that have nicer, more expensive setups than you do. I really think you've already got more than you need. 5 GBs of RAM is not worth the money already. What else would you add? Your PB is already maxed out as well. Spend the money on a nice new camera, or put it in savings for later.

I'm in agreement with everyone else - computer wise you're more than set.

If I had that setup and was going to invest some money in photo equipment I'd buy a nice printer, camera, and/or digital image viewer.

Ok, now time for my responsible, logical, mature side to kick in. I'd wait awhile. Ask your teachers what you need, they know better than anyone what is appropriate for your program. Or just wait until school starts and see what your peers have and what you're actually using. Also, I graduated from a visual communications program and had to take a bunch of photo classes. They always had equipment available for students to borrow. You could always do that and once you graduate in a few years spend the money on the most up-to-date equipment.

Didn't intend for it to be.

I'm serious about that. I've worked hard over the last 7 years to save up for those machines. I wasn't trying to brag or seem better than anyone else. I was just curious about anything I should consider.
