Looking to get a renewed iPhone for my 12 year old son from Micro Center. Currently he has a iPhone SE 1st edition. Would like to get something with a bigger screen for him. I need some help.

1. Should i be concerned about giving my son a preowned phone (find My tracking)?

2. Below is a list of phones I'm Looking at:
iPhone X - $269.99
iPhone SE 2nd gen - $199.99
iPhone XR - $279.99
Based on these phones which would be the better deal?

I know the above phones support IOS 16 but not sure if they will be supported by IOS 17.

No, nothing to worry about. The previous owner has no way to track the device. If they didn't sign out of Find My, then it'd be Activation Locked and you'd have bigger issues (can't use the phone at all). I'd hope/assume Micro Center isn't selling Activation Locked phones.

I'd go with the SE2 or XR. It really depends on how much of a bigger screen you want and how much you're willing to spend...and if you'd rather have Touch ID vs. Face ID.

You shouldn't need to worry about the phone's history for the reason iStorm gives. I would say XR because newer is better and Face ID is much more convenient than a home button. With a renewed phone I would want to inspect it before parting with the cash and I would want it to show good battery capacity, not below 90%. IMHO phone refurb should include a new battery.

Thanks for the help everyone. Probably look at getting the XR. Unfortunately, there is no way to know how good the battery is until I purchase it.
